I've been here for about half a year, I think, and I just wanted to say thank you for all of your help. When I first came here, I thought I knew everything about writing a script, having a good idea, creating round characters, and fully explaining everything, but I was wrong. Everyone here has been really nice to me by critquing (just so you know, English isn't one of my best subjects and I haven't had a spelling test in years) my scripts and telling me what I could do to make it better.

I now know most of the basic steps to make a decent script that I can post on here and not have anyone yelling at me, telling me how much it sucks and telling me it's crap without writing something that could help me make it better than it already is.

So now I am here, writing more scripts and posting them up on this site so I can get feedback on what to do, I can ask questions and know that I'm going to get help no matter what, and post my ideas and see if people like them or not (because I know my friends wouldn't care, but I know you all will).

But yeah I just wanted to thank all of you on how much you helped me, and my second job (that is if I don't get acting) I want to have is screenwriting. Thank you for helping and good luck on your scripts also.

No problem Sean. Even if I do sell something, I plan on remaining an active member around here. This place makes for a great little bit of dramaturge to perfect that script you've been working on in a friendly environment.

I also can attest to the help I've gotten from here, but the real key has been being active. If you look at the scripts I've posted (not the text, but the dates on the threads), you'll find enormous gaps between the scripts going up, and them being actually commented on. This is because I wasn't a member, then I wasn't active. Vengeance is a superior example of this, followed by Fempiror. Then I became an active member in not only reading scripts and commenting, but also just being all over the place and being known. My most recent script had almost no time being posting and reading because of this.

Honest feedback is always useful, no matter how cruel it seems, and the people here are honest (or at least I hope they are). I always ask for my work to be slammed if it's that bad since critics will be worse.

So feel free to write more Sean, and no doubt since you're active, we'll read it...and then trash it so you can rewrite it correctly the second time.

Lol thanks George that makes me feel a whole lot better.

Just kidding. But yeah I'm really starting to get addicted to this site. I'm glad I'm getting help from everyone here because I'm learning what famous screenwriters do to actually get a movie made.

Hey Sean I don't think I have read any of your screenplays, but I have seen you on the boards and you seem like one cool cat.  I'm with George when it comes to this site.  Even if I do get one of my screenplays optioned, I think I will still maintain contact with this site.  It keeps your head on straight and let's you know that there are other writers out there that might be better than you, and not everyone thinks your screenplays are "awesome".  I live in New Jersey and I have to say, moviemaking and screenwriting are not a big topic starter out here.  This is really the only place I can interact with people that are actually serious about films, moviemaking, and screenwriting.  So that's definately the great thing about Don's site here.

I remember my first script on here was Resident Evil: Desistance and it was horrible.  It still is actually.  But with each new screenplay I get better and better and the things that people on this site have told me, especially George and Tobias, it has really helped my writing.  I mean I have only been on this site for about 4 months now and one of my scripts was voted as one of the best Action scripts of 2005.  It's great incentive and it let's you know that people appreciate your work.

You know I tried reading that, but since it came in PDF format, my computer screwed it up to where it is in some different font (like Symbols or something) so I wasn't able to read it.

>

But yeah I've been here for who knows how long (I sure don't  ) and I have read some pretty awesome scripts.

Trust me, you're not missing much.

But I'll definatly check one of your screenplays out, I feel kind of bad that I haven't read one of yours.  Any preferences?

Any that you think you'd enjoy. But just a fun fact: Dead and Walking, I think, is my best out of all the others. I think that is why I put it seperately from all the others in my sig.

I'll read one of your scripts in return, that is, if I have enough time and I am able to get away from World Geography for a few hours.

I'm curious, did you ever have one of those "beginners" episodes where you acted like a little kid and was everything a member shouldn't be. Not that *cough* I was or anything *cough*

Haha.  Well I remember I used to partake in some of the stupid arguments in the General Chat board.  Like on government and favorite films and stuff.  That's just a lost cause.  Everyone wants the last word, but it's impossible on a website chat board to have it.  I try to stay on topic here now.  It's not really anyone's business what my top 10 favorite films are or if I think 9/11 was a conspiracy.  That's just asking for trouble.

And Sean, Dead and Walking it is.

I remember begging for reviews in multiple locations. This was before the review exchange. What I ended up doing was going through the Goose's Reading Service threads and picking out scripts to read and review. I eventually did an exchange with someone, and I think it may have been a script called The Farm from this new guy who had just started around here with a stupid prison photo of Bert.

...I just checked, and it was actually Oness's Misfortune, not The Farm, althought The Farm was very soon after.

Hey Sean,

I'm rather new here, so I'm still learning the lineup.
If I'm not mistaken, you're the dead guy, right?
I mean the dead man writing.
Zombie dude.
Meat muncher.
Right?
Just wondering if you've heard about a German zombie film on dead nazis during WW II?
The name escapes me.
It hasn't been distributed yet, but I saw a trailer with dead nazis cruising the airway via parachutes.
Any of this ring a bell?
anyway, seems like something up your alley.
I'm trying to get (or remember) the film title.
If you know what I'm talking about, shoot that beast my way.
Oh, I'm NOT referring to a film of years past called Shock Waves.
If you don't know what I'm yacking about, and I do get the title, I'll send it to you
on a nice, cold slab.

Ditto to all comments.  I've been on this board for almost three years, and I started as a lowly writer making poorly formatted scripts.  Now, I know the format and I actually very much enjoy the scripts I write (even if they do sort of slowly trickle in only twice a year or so).  However, I want to give a special shout out to Guy, who wrote about this board keeping your head straight.  Very true.  I've been at film school for only five months and all ready I want to essentially beat the living hell out of every film student here.  Be that as it may, this site has truly shaped me as a better writer and, in some respects, probably a better director as well.

This also brings me around to something that's been in development for a while and I still can't really talk about it.  It's a paying job and it may not be film, but it is another big form of media that I've been a fan of since I was a small child (anyone who knows what my favorite movie of 2005 was will probably know which media I am talking about).  I've been meeting with certain heads of a certain company for almost a year now, and I may just be seeing my first check in August with the project itself being availible to the masses at some point by the end of the year.

And while it is true that I sort of fell ass backwards into this and it was all luck, I still give tremendous thanks to this site.  Without it, I know I would not be the writer I am today.

Cheers.

This is a good point. This place does keep you humble. As soon as your head gets too big for your shoulders, Phil comes around and bursts your bubble to remind you that you're one in a million, and that ain't a compliment. I've run into people who believe they're God's gift to the screen or theatre, and I admit I was one once. This site has helped because I'm dealing with people just like me with the same interests in writing great cinema. So yeah, big thanks to keeping the head on straight.
