Hey everyone,

This was a long time coming, but today I finally got my arse into gear and decided once and for all to go ahead and book my year long trip to Canada!

My friends in Florida inspired me to just get on and do it, so the application form will be sent on my behalf by my sister, while I'm on vacation. All I need to do is wait for my flight date and then leave! I will hopefully be granted the June 14th departure date and will surely be bricking it in the last 4-5 weeks I'll have left in the UK!

How does one pack for one year away I wonder????!

So, the other important thing that I wanted to say, is that after some serious consideration, I'm interested in trying out some sort of media editorial/writing position. Now, does anybody know how would be best to go about looking for such work?

I'm of course interested in the movies, and writing, lol, but have no clue as to what kinds of roles to look for. Agent work? Promo work? Press work? Script-reviewing work???  Kevan actually also suggested something to me once which sounded very interesting, but I also have no knowledge of that either. I would very much like to see if I'm capable of obtaining work in this field, while living in Vancouver, to see if I can make a career out of it.

Does anyone have any ideas??? Any and all suggestions would be most appreciated!!

Love,
Andy x x x

PS - Stewart, I'll be in touch shortly. I'm on vacation right now and am just trying to chill out before the chaos of leaving begins. Can't wait to FINALLY meet up and get better acquainted with you and your lovely wife.

Andy

The job you're referring to is called a "reader" this is the person everybody on this site wants to read their screenplays and give them perfect coverage so it gets recommended..

A script reader basically does just that but they are required to write coverage which includes a detailed outline/synopsis including mention of main characters, plots and subplots and the over all story and audience appeal etc.

You can find some overage at Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio's web site:

http://www.wordplayer.com/

Coverage
http://www.wordplayer.com/columns/wp39.Cover.Me.html

At least visiting Elliot and Rossio's site you'll come to know what coverage is.

There are some real coverage on their site but the names have been removed to protect the guilty..

If you become a professional reader then you'd be expected to produce documents such as these as part of your job..

Hollywood Production companies have them, agents and other places..

Go girl..

Only problem is that many reader jobs are either voluntery or non paying. May not help Andy in her situation at the moment.

I'm still keeping an eye out for you Andy.

Hey J,

Sent you an email, hope you got it. I've heard TONS about that fireworks show, I plan on checking it out.

Going to start to look for a job properly now. Would love to find something related to media/prodcution work, but won't hold my breath for it. Otherwise, I'll just keep my options open, even if it means going back to a law firm

It's going ok so far. Had better days before today to be honest. Really homesick right now   Hopefully I'll settle in better. It seems to get harder making new friends the older I get. Fingers crossed it gets better soon.

Making new friends in a new place always takes time, Andy. I went through the same kind of thing when I moved to Germany. You'll settle into it soon enough.

Be sure to get down the pub for the England game on Saturday (whatever time it is there?) I'm sure you'll meet some friendly people there!

Andy - we'll hook up soon and we'll turn that frown upside down.

This weekend is Canada Day, so that means Monday is a holiday. I'll give you a call and see if we can hook up on Monday.

Hey Andy,
Don't you frown. Just remember everyone here loves you. Even though you are far from your real home, you can always get on line and come here (your other home).

I'm sure you will make a lot of friends real soon.

I wish, Phil! It would be lovely to see you again. When is your next Brit-beer-fest taking place?

OMG - I saw that Hot-Dog diner place we went to on TV the other night, Gray's Papaya I think it was called? I totally thought of you!!   I couldn't tell if it was the one we went to, near that dog run area. Was it Washington Square? I can't remember exactly, it looked different in daylight!

Miss ya!

Gray's Papaya is a pretty big chain, Andy.  And all the stores look similar.  But it's good to know that, when you think of weiners, you think of me.

Doh, it wasn't Gray's Papaya... it was...

I'll always think of you, Phil, when I see a weiner. Nice.

Pia - it was a once in a lifetime experience and I've learnt so much this past year. Priceless!!

Never heard of it!

It's a big chain in New York City.  Actually it's three:  Papaya King, Papaya Dog and Grey's Papaya.  Two of them splintered off from the first, though I don't know which.  You can get hot dogs, french fries, soda and various fruit juices.  The dogs are only 75 cents each but are some of the best you'll ever have.

Things I've learned with Andy:

1. Don't balance take-out curry in the back seat of your car.
2. Don't talk about giant spiders at midnight.
3. Don't plan, do.
4. Decide on dinner the day before, so we don't spend all night deciding what to eat.
5. When undecided what to do, a movie and a dinner is the way to go.

Things I've learned with Stew:

1. The Yellow Pages are useful afterall, and I don't need to use them as a door stop.
2. His cat hates me.
3. Talking about spiders at midnight is fun, especially after all the horror stories...
4. Rogers video ought to give Stew a BIG discount.
5. Every movie is watchable, no matter how bad it is.

6. Watching movies with Mr + Mrs.MacDuff is AWESOME. I'll miss you both very much
