New Been Gone A While, Still Plugging Away
LocationRochester, NY Posts35 Posts Per Day 0.01 |
Hello all. I'm Bob Williams. I'm a 25 year old Electrical Engineer in Rochester, NY. After becoming inspired by films such as ' The Weather Man,' ' For Love of the Game,' ' Moulin Rouge,' ' The Natural,' ' American Beauty,' ' Big Fish,' and the screen adaptation of ' Rent', I signed up a few weeks ago for a screenwriting class at ' Writers and Books,' a literary workshop here in Rochester. While working on some of the various assignments for my class, my girlfriend tossed out a preliminary idea for a short comedy. The result is ' Can Grab' which is linked in my sig file. I submitted it Sunday right after I registered with SS and am eagerly awaiting its posting and feedback. I'm currently digesting Cynthia Whitcomb's ' The Writer's Guide to Writing Your Screenplay' and I love it. It's with that knowledge that I am begininning development on ' Logan St.,' a story of four college students of diverse social and economic backgrounds and their trials. My end goal is to acquire a Sony DSR-PD170 in a few months and form a bare bones independent production group of friends and RIT film students to turn these scripts into possible festival submissions. I look forward to getting to know you all, reading your work, and leaving and receiving feedback. -Bob |

Hey Bob, I actually just watched The Weatherman last night... it is pretty inspiring I must admit. It's films like that which makes me get down to writing for hours on end. Anyway, hope you enjoy it here. |

Nice introduction. Well written. Those who are serious about learning the craft are welcome here, as we all learn from each other.
You will not find a better proving ground for your stories -- as you learn what does and does not work.
Hope you find these boards helpful to you. |

Hey buddy, welcome to the boards.
You might want to check out the one week excercise coming up, it might be a good way to get yourself into the swing of things.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Parkster, For such a strange movie its so powerful in its desperation. Even if he didn't get the NY job, it would have been a fine film. I already enjoy it here. Reviewed some shorts tonight. Never realized how much you can learn by reading others. Hopefully my comments aren't misguided. Tyler, I have inquired about the one-week exercise in that thread. Sounds like a great time. I still have five weeks of class left, so I'm in a groove cranking out things on a weekly interval. |

Hey, Bob, maybe you should show your class Simply Scripts just as a presentation....Just kidding...Unless you really want to. There are a lot of good people here who help you with what you need done to make your script better.
So, welcome.

Sean,
I do intend to do that. I would encourage them to come here.
Ape,
You are beginning to produce animated films in November? I'd like to find out more about that. There ought to a pile of good candidates after the one-week contest. |

Hi...I'm Wonkavite (otherwise known as Janet) -
Just started on the board, getting my feet wet with the one week challenge. I'm 36, wrote SF short stories quite prolifically as a teenager. It's been awhile, and this is actually my first script format piece...but, I'm testing getting back into the fiction waters (I still do alot of non-fiction writing...restaurant reviews and such). Looking foward to seeing what happens from here...! |

Hey Janet, You know you could've started a new thread for your own introduction but I guess it's pretty cool that you saved some space around here! I'm trying not to ignore any of the other boards while the 30+ scripts are up from the one week challenge. Did you say you entered it? That's cool. Just remember to do some reviewing of the others too. I know it hasn't even been a day since they've gone up, but still, thought I'd just mention it. Welcome to the boards Janet. Hope you enjoy it here. |

Welcome to the boards Janet. Glad you entered the OWC. Make sure you read and review some scripts. If you don't, people will get cranky when the authors are revealed. Just some friendly advice |
