So, I finally finished my short film Producing Fiction, formerly titled "Lights, Camera, Action?"  It premiered to a crowd of about 100 to laughs, cheers, and applause at the end through almost the entire credits sequence.

You can check out the trailer at:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-S-E-ggwykI

The original thread for the script was here:
http://www.simplyscripts.net/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?b-short/m-1164145513/s-new/
The script's changed a lot since I posted it back then.

I'm trying to use the proceeds from the film to fund my first feature length.

Congrats, dressel. The trailer looks pretty well made but it's more of a teaser really. Let us know if the full film ever ends up online.

Ignore Phil's rampant cynicism. The rest of us do.

Yeah, I will.  I usually put my shorts online, but YouTube begins to lag after about 10 min.  I think I'll try another server.

I'm mainly only selling the DVDs to friends, other film majors, etc.  Already sold 21.  Not exactly a lot, but still a bit of pocket change.  I usually make my films for quite a small amount of money, seeing as I don't write a lot of effects-riden stuff.

Dressel,

I liked the teaser to your short.   It looks like it would be pretty good.

There's also been an explosion of shorts lately as technology is getting cheaper and cheaper. Especially shorts made by non pros like students and wanna be's (I'm a wannabe myself). I think people are becoming somewhat jaded or sceptical (hate my English sometimes) when it comes to shorts. Instead of jumping up and down cheering and celebrating, writers ask "show me what you've done before" before they let anyone use their scripts. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the difference in quality in shorts out there vary so much and we tend not to get excited that easily anymore.

Dressel,

I applaude you for making a short and I wish you the best of luck, but maybe you can excuse some of the members for not feeling the rush too.

Peace!

PS. not sure this makes sense, but it did in my head.

Understood. Especially with the advent of YouTube!  My God, there's some really bad stuff out there.

I just wanted everyone to know, because people usually tell the SimplyScripts community when they finish something they posted.

Sorry for the unpleasant nature of this entire thread, but I guess I just expected a "Good job" instead of what I got.

Hey Dressel,

Looks like you're working with some serious equipment there!  The video looks great.  That said, I'd have to see the whole short to comment (which I'd like to).  The trailer isn't much of a trailer...it isn't even much of a teaser.

Upload something longer!

Speaking of which, how long is the film?

I watched the trailer earlier before what went on and it seems it was cleaned up before I could read anything... Once again, I'm an hour late.

Anyway, I'm not the biggest fan of what was spoofed but I do love those "Just kidding" type of things that some films and or trailers do.

The concept sounds intriguing.

22 min.  Like I've said previously, I wanted to upload it to YouTube, but it starts to go out of sync after 10 min,  I think I'm going to try DailyMotion.

And I know it's not much of a trailer, but I just wanted to make something fun.  That, and I couldn't really make a good trailer.

I shot it with a Panasonic DVX 100A, and I cut it on Final Cut 5.  For my next film I really hope to buy/rent/borrow a 35mm lens adapter for my camera.

If you're talking about Star Wars, then yeah, I really dislike all of those movies too.  I think the trailer lets on too much that it's about Star Wars, when really, it's just a buddy comedy about college life dealing with a guy who happens to be making a Star Wars fan film.  Being that I dislike the series so much, I told my writing partner that this couldn't be a film just constantly referencing those movies.  All in all, there's only about 5 or 6 jokes (in the span of 22 min) that reference Star Wars.
