Alright, so as you may or may not know, my brother and I are working on a feature-length documentary. We're doing a story on video game addiction. So far we've gotten several interviews and filming will wrap within a month. I worked on the film as cinematographer and editor and most techy stuff. So if the film looks like shit, blame me. My brother is the director and fielded the interviews. I'm writing and directing segments. I think he'll be narrating the film. Though I'm not sure yet, depends what we decide. While the whole story is we're not Moore's or Spurlocks so the documentary tries it's best to get both sides views. We don't care about theatrics, we want truth. See there is still some integrity in filming. While, we've shot hours of footage and don't have.. a name. That's right. We're out of luck when it comes to the title. Which is ironic because we already have a working-title name for our next feature... "Spiritua" which yes, I'll be taking the reigns as director and writer. So this is my brothers project with me helping and "Spiritua" will be my project with my brother helping. Hey, we're the next generation Cohens, or Wachowskis (without the sex change). Whichever you prefer. Either way, post will probably wrapped on the documentary in January and Febuary is when I want to begin filming "Spiritua". Oh and "Coffee" is still in the works, and I'm wanting to film that as soon as possible. But for now, I need to give it a name... |

If it's about video game addiction why not go for concept that reflects that urge to play just one...more...level...
It would be cool if you had footage of one of your interviewees actually saying something along those lines. Then the title could be a quote. Like "One More Level and I'll Stop..." |

I reckon a look at people with net addiction could be interesting too. You always hear those stories about people who dropped dead after being on the net for four days straight or whatever.
I've heard that some countries even have rehabs for net addicts now.

Like gameheadz, and any variation there of would also be good...Gamerz, Gamezoids. Fraggin'4Gibs (shooting repeatedly so that internal organs (giblets) explode), kind of a Doom interpretation of Bowling for Dollars... Power Up, Power Down GmrZmbz (Gamer Zombies) Pong: Abandon all hope, ye who enter here... Sounds like a good project...I make my 8 year old take a break regularly so his eyeballs don't fry and his thumbs can take a minute to cool off... Sounds more like arcade games from the 80s. Do people play for high scores anymore? I mean with WoW and round-based Unreal tournament style games. The incentive seems to be increasingly complex today with games like Second Life where there is no natural end-point but the goal of the game is to play the game. Games are going from being linear to circular so it never has to end. Scary. |

I like the title "One More Level" without the second part. Mario Brothers is a highly addictive game but you're not addicted like a drug in any way shape or form. Now if they have every game system (even the hard to find ones) and every game ever made for them, yes that guy is addicted to video games. |

Out of curiosity, does your documentary focus on MMOs and virtual worlds or just obsessive videogaming in general? You should interview some Korean people if you haven't already...
Anyways suggestions:

WoW, You've Gained Weight

I think "One More Level" is a phenomenal title. Who hasn't said that before?
"1 Up" has kind of a ring to it (although it's perhaps uncomfortably close to a certain successful documentary series...).
"To Master Chief, With Love" hahah. |

I like this one cause it's got a good double meaning for your doc, as a character in a game, your guy can be virtually unstoppable, but the player himself is also Virtually Unstoppable in terms of his addiction... |

Haha yeah it's the end all of end all titles for nerdy obsessions.
Ah and browsing Youtube I nearly freaked out cause I thought my doc subject was already made. Luckily, they're only shorts and they assume addiction exsist. I can rest easy cause ours is really indepth and I'm really proud how it's turning out. |

I always thought this was staged. Why would the guy tape himself playing an online game? And why would he show it to anyone? It would be too embarrassing for him. In a vaguely similar vein: http://www.filecabi.net/video/Ventrilo_Harassment.htmlPhil |

I love that video. Anyway, in response to the thread topic, how about "In The Zone." I think that's a good description of someone addicted to video games. I saw a kid playing GTA:3 once who was pratically glued to the screen and basically grunted whenever someone said something to him. These guys really seem like they're in outer space. Otherwise, you could try something simplier like "Gamers" or "Game Addicts." "Why I'm Still A Virgin" is a good one, LOL. Funny and accurate. "Why I'm A Virgin" might be better though. The "Still" makes it sound like a sequel, haha. |

Hey actually, and Sheepwalker basically already suggested this, but
"Owned!"
or any 1337speak variation, could be another good one. Kind of a double meaning as well. |

I'm not a Doctor, but I'm assuming that this tape was made by the boys parents to show to his therapist/advocate/lawyer...It's documentation as the young man demonstrates some highly aggressive autistic behavior, and doubt it was ever intended for release as entertainment. That being said, though. No more Unreal for you. |

Don't you like Star Trek? Anyway, I think Martin's "Level Up" is the best suggestion so far. It captures everything about game addiction in one tiny verbless clause that's conceptually familiar to anyone who has ever played a video game for more than a few hours. Perhaps add a little: "Level Up or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying About Getting Laid and Love the Game." Or not. |

Working in the gaming industry, most of my colleagues would probably qualify as gaming addicts. It's quite scary in a way. There's a handful of fan sites for the game we've been working on for the last few years and some of the forum members have over 3000 posts. The game isn't even out yet!
I saw a documentary a while ago about this gaming addiction rehab center in Amsterdam where some kid was showing off the scars on his back from playing 40 hour sessions of WoW on a hard plastic chair. |

There's drama in there. Trust us. The thing is alot of people just say "video game addiction" but don't really know what is going on. People play alot and that must mean they're "addicted". We're taking both sides and trying to find the truth.
We've interviewed both Liz Wooley and Stuart Gitlow, who are both on opposing sides of the argument.
And Martin, what do you do for the industry? |

I think what I was getting at was whether or not a Trekkie could call a Star Wars geek a loser without the universe imploding on itself? A bit like the old "the pot calling the kettle black", I suppose. |

While a quick update. We just got back from the Philly game expo. We shot about an hour of footage and got several great interviews. The entire experience was hella fun and now we're beginning the long task of editing and putting together the best film we can.
We talked to some great people and even met Zack Ward. Which might not mean much to some, but to Titus fans, it's freaking awesome. |
