So i thought it would be rude not to introduce myself.

I have been lurking here for a few weeks just reading scripts and many of the posts on here, thought it was time i registered and made a contribution.

My name is Murphy and i have not written a word yet, in fact the odd thing is that i have never in my life harbored any ambition to write anything, i would have never thought of myself as a budding writer at all. So why am i here? to be honest i have got no idea other than a strange desire to write a screenplay that i cannot begin to guess where it came from.

I do love films however, in the past couple of years my love for films has grown enormously and with it my taste in films seem to have changed as much. A little late in life (i am mid 30's now) i seem to have found my passion, it took a while but i guess better late than never.

Rather strangely it seems to be the glut of hollywood dross that has played a part in my decision, there is so much crap out there that when i do find a film that is head and shoulders above i realize what is possible with just a good idea and a great director.

So anyway, i have begun my research. I have spent the last couple of weeks reading a wide selection of scripts, produced films and some wonderful full lengths and shorts from some of the contributers to this board. Can one teach yourself to write a script? Can reading scripts suddenly turn me into the third Coen brother? We shall see i guess!

So i have downloaded Celtx, I have even stared at an empty page a few times, toyed with my first scene and even named a character. Anyway, keep a look out for my first short, I don't think it is far away and when the time comes i would appreciate any feedback you are prepared to give (and don't worry i have a day job and not thinking of giving it up just yet! ).

Thanks

Murphy

Hah....get used to that, man.

Welcome to the boards.  There are plenty of resources to help you out if you ask or explore on your own.

Best of luck with your projects -- but avoid the temptation to send it in the minute you type FADE OUT.  It will be tough -- but if you polish it up and make it shine before you send it in you will be happier in the long run.  Rushed work shows.

Hey Murphy,

That's a nice introduction, mate. Welcome to the boards. You probably know about the quid pro quo 'rules' around here so I won't go into that.

Anyways, good luck with your script. Remember, the first two words are easy - FADE IN...the rest, though, is a totally different story.

Thanks for the welcome folks, aint got a clue what you are on about Greg, but sounds funny anyway

Been writing a short over the last few days, not finished yet but i can see something if you know what i mean. will carry on with it over the next day or two and see where it leads. Be good to post something up and see where i am going wrong anyway.

Getting the dialogue to sound natural is the toughest thing, reading more scripts i guess is the key.

Anyway, thanks all.
