Thank you Zack,

We here in Canada had our Thanksgiving last month, but I join you in thankfulness.

Something to do with pilgrims. I didn't pay attention in grade school... All I know is that we get to eat turkey and pumpkin pie!

Hey alffy,

There are two sides to most things and the same is true for Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is a day when people give thanks for what they have here in the U.S. and have the huge Thanksgiving dinner, a parade, and a day of football on the tube.

It is also a day that some "Native Americans" don't celebrate or like.

Why?

Cos' they got screwed when they tried to make friends with the settlers.
They had a huge feast with the pilgrims (big turkey dinner) welcoming them to this country, and for that, their land was taken from them, they were put on reservations, and were given rotten meat to feed their families from the government...

So it's two-sided... You know... Good and bad...

And this is a good thing?

Of all the wunderful dishes around, you guys choose the most boring meat of all...turkey.

And pumpkin pie?

Turkey&gravy, mashed potaters, stuffing, sweet potaters, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls, pumpkin pie and apple pie...and we actually also had prime rib last night in addition to all that stuff.

Mmmm.  A Very Happy Thanksgiving Indeed!

Over here in Mexico, we don't look into the past or origins of Thanksgiving. We just use it as a day to express gratitude to all of our friends and families. I had a really good dinner--we ate mashed potatoes, some kind of paste (like spaghetti or something, but different. Not sure what it is called), and ribs, (couldn't get the turkey in time, but they were damn tasty)

Only this year did I realize the importance of the date. I got a much friendlier vibe from my family during dinner. almost like I felt during Christmas when I was a kid. Just one year ago I was just happy I could eat 'til I could burst.lol.

I know I should've said this on the actual date, but whatever--happy Thanksgiving, all of you.

Some people need to go hungry if they don't appreciate good food. I think when you have to kill an animal and prepare it, you have an appreciation for the meat you eat. (That is of course if you aren't a vegetarian.)

It's too easy now. People take their nourishment from the labour of a net of individuals that work anonymously. These people help to feed us daily.

Remember the prayer: Thank you for the world so sweet, thank you for the food we eat, thank you for the birds that sing, thank you God for everything?

We can't always be thankful. It's relative. He takes away our goods so that we feel some kind of lack that draws us towards our yearning in order for us to become fully conscious. (Sorry, I think I'm going above heads again.) What I mean is that we're involved in a game that's kind of like cat and mouse in order for us to be more than a "suck" someone who just takes like a babe in the womb and the alternative, a "gift", one who gives without much thought for themselves except that they know they're stuck in a "gift" kind of mode, giving in the altruists pursuit of bestowal and thereby gaining a special joy.

Because we are like animals that calculate on the basis of "I have and I'm happy" and "I have not" and "I'm sad to be without," we march according to the beat of a drum with good and bad beats. Nevertheless, I feel that I'd be wrong in not expressing the pain I feel when you put down good food.

That's what it's all about for me in this post: Good food. Throw me a crust of bread and I'm truly thankful. Maybe it sounds stupid. I've eaten at some very fine restaurants in Vancouver-- this rotating lounge above the city and I remember my Grandma enjoying it to the hilt. This was a really big thing for her and for me too because the waiters kept asking if everything was alright and of course it was.

Most important though is the fact it's there. When you're a kid and you wander into the house at 3:30 and someone has something hot on the table for you, then-- (to me at least) that is a really big thing.

I think what I'm trying to say here is that I think we are all very spoiled. On Thanksgiving, I think we need to weigh in our own minds what we should be thankful for. It might not be food, but something else. Nevertheless, food sustains us and so I'm hoping that I can recognize its value and adjust the thankfulness in my heart so that the goodness  doesn't go unnoticed no matter who sits down to dinner with an empty heart.

I don't celebrate thanksgiving over here.  But with this combination on offer, I'd love to start.

A couple of friends of mine had a big Thanksgiving Dinner with turkeys and all on thursday as they watched nine hours of American Football.

Of all the things we adopt from American culture. This is by far the most idiotic.

And celebrating thanksgiving is pretty silly too.

Oh Snap.
