Hello everyone,

I'm 25, male and I come from Asia. My dream is to pursue a career in film making.

I am new to script writing and I hope to pick up more knowledge and skills from the experts in this forum. I'll need a lot of guidance, do provide any feedback so that I can improve myself.

After reading the Screenwriting FAQ, what kind of script is good for a novice like me to start with?

Hi, welcome to the boards!

I'd say start with whatever genre you feel most comfortable with. You will learn a lot from the people on this site for sure.

^^ Brain said it perfectly. I'd also recommend writing a few shorts before starting a feature. Read some of the shorts posted on the website to see how to write. I'd also recommend reading some professional feature length scripts as well, to see how to write as well.

But yeah, definitely try and perfect your craft with short writing first. Then, once you are confident enough (ie, you've got format, and the actual basics of writing locked down), start writing a feature.

Have you written any scripts yet? Or tried writing anything in general?

Toby.

Hello Jester,

Maybe scripts found in my signature would be a good start?

Not only should you read scripts here but also provide feedback.  All us writers like to hear your opinions and views on improvements.

Enjoy!

Nope I have not written anything in general yet, this is my first time trying to put my ideas into writing.

Start out writing whatever story you're passionate about.  It doesn't matter what genre it is, or whether it's a short, feature, or series.  Just makes sure you have a good grasp of the proper format before you start.  It'll save you a lot of headaches on down the road.

I have nothing that you can read.
