I'm 17 years old, about to be a senior in high school, and I just started writing scripts a few months ago. Still haven't really mastered the formatting, or story structure, but I decided to join these boards to figure it all out, and also get some constructive criticism. Of course, I'll be reading scripts on the site to learn more, and to learn the different kinds of styles.
I'm hoping that this site benefits me, and that I can progress with my writing. So, hello all, I'm glad to be here.
That's a good question Dressel. One day when I was watching Pulp Fiction (one of my all-time favorites), I remembered I had found an empty journal in my room, and took it just in case. I thought it might be interesting to try and create my own kind of story. So I wrote down the idea, and began a mediocre attempt at a script.
The last two weeks I've pumped out five or six shorts. I've been trying to write a feature, but it's a little difficult to stay interested. I like writing scripts that are straight to the point, and after writing about 20 pages I feel like the story is falling apart.
But I still persist, because it's best to get out all your ideas, no matter how funky the story becomes. Then go back and untangle the mess. Haha, that's how I look at it at least!
It's also a good outlet, along with writing rap lyrics. I've got about thirteen journals now filled to the brim with lyrics. It's not that type of rap they play on the radio. It's educating, and just putting my whole heart into each and every verse. I'm an artist, I always have wanted to do something involving writing.
By the way, I just posted one of my shorts. It's called "Dark and Light". I don't know how it works around here to get reviews, but I volunteer to read other peoples' shorts and review them if you return the favor once my script is posted.

I'd happily give it a read, has it been posted on here or have you just submitted it?
A Ras Kass fan eh? But welcome to the site dude, looking forward to reading your shorts. What genre do you usually write, or do you drift between genres?
That was very funny. And the even funnier thing is that he has no idea how truthful you're actually being...
Welcome Andrew. I like what you said about getting the ideas out and untangling them later. Nice way of looking at it. Look forward to reading your shorts! As long as you return reads, and as long as you can take criticism in the spirit in which it's given, you'll be fine.
Muse32: I just submitted it last night. How long does it usually take before it's posted?
Toby_E: Yeah, I love underground hip-hop and the old school stuff. Ras Kass is a great lyricist, and I think he does a good job spreading his message around.
And yeah, Andrew is a great name! Haha.
If anyone has any shorts they want me to read, just give me the title and I'll get on it as soon as possible. I'm kind of busy lately juggling summer school and hanging out with my friends, but I'll find time somewhere in between.
