Hey I didn't know where to put this, so if a mod could re direct it, its whatever.

So I'm bored and decide to check up on the email I used to submit my script and take a look at what I got:

Dear Steve:

My name is Shariff Butler Executive Director of Sunday School Productions a new theater production company and writing collective. I recently read portions of your script "THE BIG FADE" and I noticed that you have an impressive skill for both dialogue and detail, though there is a question of typos and such. That being said, our company works primarily by collaboration and I wanted you to know I would be interested in contracting you for an assignment.

We are currently working on an action adventure creature feature called "THE OCEAN DEEP". We also have an action based romantic comedy called "The Mortal Adventures of Mel and The Silver Cross". I can give you more details should you take interest.

You will have 60 days to complete a script, from a treatment and writing samples that we will give you based on one of either of the abovementioned projects.

Upon completion we will sell the script with you contractually keeping your rights to this intellectual property as lead writer. In return I will be given both story credits, as this is my original concept and co-writing credits as I will oversee the final draft. You will receive a fair share of the profits of the script, which will be negotiated prior to sale.

Again we are interested in working with you. Please let me know if you are interested in this unique opportunity.

Very Truly Yours,

Shariff Butler

You know, even if it was BS, I would have tried it out anyway, just to see what happens.  Ever since I submitted my script a while back (the thread is closed now since I'm working on a new draft) I've gotten emails like crazy from people praising my writing and asking for help, this or that, whatever.

The msg was from June 18, and its now July 13th.  I wonder if I can write them back and see if they would be interested in doing anything else?  Hell I need the cash.

lol I know.

I just wrote him saying I'm sorry for getting back to him so late, but I hardly ever use that email, it was one I just made up to submit the script, etc etc.

Hopefully I hear back from the guy.  I told him if I was too late for the other projects, I'd be willing to work on new stuff.

I hope it works out, man. I only get the spam emails about screenwriting competitions and stuff that may or may not be legitimate. Good luck.

hahaha its cool.  I used to get a lot from people who had no idea how to write.

They expected me to help them out the whole way.

however, writing about the deep ocean and romantic comedies ain't really my forte.

I'm more into doing stuff like a Mean Streets type of story.

I noticed you mentioned cash, so I'll just throw this out there for you.

What he's asking, is that you write a script for him based on his story, which he will in turn try to sell/get produced.  Then, and only then, will you get paid.

It's basically like a writing a spec, but with somebody else doing the leg work in regards to a sale.

Oh well I'll take a stab at it.  Its not like I'm struggling to keep a house and working my balls off to the point where I have no time to even consider it.

I still live with the folks. haha

I don't do crap, so I wouldn't mind writing and seeing my name on a movie or whatever.

Cool, Slab!  I think you should tell him that romantic comedies are your strong suit.  Oh yeah, that and anything that takes place underneath any of the oceans of the world.

In the oceans or underneath them.  Even in the many rivers and streams of the world.  Maybe even in the sky, above the oceans of the world.

^^ Stop talking shit.

Good stuff Slabby, go for it! As Mike said, you probably won't get paid as it might not sell, but it will be a good experience and it would be awesome to get some cash!

Someone got ahold of me back in April over Deliver me Death and expressed a lot of interest in making it... We talked back and forth for the longest time, and even didn't communicate at all for 3 to 4 weeks, and just last week I received a contract for production.  Just because you don't hear back from these people within the week or you think the contact was lost because of a gap and lack of talking... Don't.  I'd get in touch with them and see where it goes.

If nothing else, you still had interest from someone who was/is/are willing to make "YOUR" work come to life... That's what's important.  Even if they don't do it justice or to your liking; at this stage, most of everyone here, are trying to be produced anyway they can...

Johnny Depp once said that he wanted to make it in show business so bad that he'd strap Dom Deluise to his back and climb a building if that's what they wanted him to do.  You have to make sacrifices to make it... It's very much like the lottery and your odds of being produced by a big time company are probably even worse than winning it.
