Hi!  I am 57 year old grape and olive farmer in norther California.  A farm is a good place to become reflective on life--keeps the mind occupied when performing hours of repetitious work.  I am currently working on a script called Battle Among the Clouds about Filipino resistance to the Japanese in Northern Luzon, Philippines during World War II.  Script samples are at the following link.  Forgive the formatting.  The format didn't transfer well to my blog.

http://globalvoyageur.blogspot.com/

The name Battle Among the Clouds refers to decisive battle fought by the Filipino resistance against the Japanese in the high cloud-swept moutains at elevations of over 5,000 feet.  They were led by an American Colonel Russel M. Volckmann, an American officer who refused to surrender at Bataan in April 1942 and joined the resistance. For more information on the script, see my Work in Progress:

http://www.simplyscripts.net/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?b-workinprogress/

I did not initially set out to write a movie script on this subject.  I am a natural born American citizen, but at age 11 and 12 from 1963 to 1964 my family lived in the Philippines main island of Luzon in the college town of Los Banos.  My father was employed on an agricultural development by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), a project developing new strains of rice.  During my two years residence, I became acutely aware of the wealth of World War II history around me.  Los Banos had an infamous history during World War II as the site of a Japanese internment camp for allied civilians and military personnel.  In 23 February 1945 a combined U.S Army Airborne and Filipino guerrilla task force liberated the 2,147 internees.

At the time of my residence, the memory of the Japanese occupation was still fresh in minds of Filipinos.  My father’s work brought our family in contact with Filipinos, and I listened enthralled by their stories—horrors and deprivations of the Japanese occupation, secret struggles of resistance, and heroic actions of guerilla partisans.  I was particularly intrigued by the war stories of an ex-guerilla fighter and driver for the rice research institute named Diaz, whom I prodded incessantly about his war experiences, and whose stories of guerilla existence stimulated my interest in the subject.  I did not initially set out to write a movie script.  Initially I merely wanted to put the stories of Diaz and others into some historical context. But in the course of my reading, I become aware of how poorly understood the war in the Philippines is to the American public compared to other World War II struggles.  I am concerned that as the World War II generation dies off much of this history is in danger of becoming forgotten.  Among the wealth of film-worthy military history in the Philippines, one special battle stands out: The Battle for Bessang Pass, also known as the Battle Among the Clouds.

I read some of the blog, reads more like a book. That's not bad, it just is. The other thing I think about is the same bunch that produced Band of Brothers is shooting a Pacific Theater version. It would not be a bad thing to write a book about the subject either. Could open more doors for you.

Hello voyageur,

Welcome to the site. You will find that this site is VERY useful to us who wish to have their scripts worked over, worked through and worked on.

I hope that your idea for a script works it's way into a completed succes.

I visited your first link and tried to read your script- but I couldn't. Not because it was badly written but because I simply could not read it.

There was no formatting. It was completly scrambled to a point where I could not determine what was action, dialog, or sluglines.

Sorry. I'm not sure why your program did not translate over to your website, but no matter how good a script, if the formatting is that far off, I persoanlly can't get through it.

Your concept for the script seems interesting. Try posting it here in the works in progress section and it will most likley upload correctly for everyone to read.

Best of luck and keep writing bro-

Shawn.....><

Welcome to SS voyageur.

WWII is a fascinating subject and the story you're developing sounds intriguing.  I too am researching a WWII story but on the European side.
