Hi, Just read a couple of scripts from SS  Star Buck Starr which I enjoyed and part read Red Sun, not much of a western fan so I may or may not get back to it, although it was well writen. I also watched Broken which I thought was great for a short.

I am not a writer and certainly not qualified to pass anything but the simplest opinions on anyones work. But for some crazy reason I have decided to attempt a script for something close to my heart. So I am here to learn how to put a script together in an acceptable manner. In the meantime il enjoy reading all of yours I am able to.

The opinions of the new board members are important, too.  Peerless.  Saying it's not is like saying the opinions of certain people matter when it comes to movies.  You're a fresh set of eyes.  You can probably see some things in scripts that the more experienced people cannot.

Welcome to the boards.

Thank you for the welcome, I should have explained better. I am able to pass comment on the stories or rather my opinion. But I would not consider myself able to comment on script structure etc. I never even read a script until I joined these boards.
I guess what I am saying is I know diddly squat about the anatomy of a script
But fueled by the desire to get a true story I have spent many years researching onto paper I had two choices open to me, a simple "here are the facts book" very limited audience, or a script that may be taken seriously enough to be made into a movie.

I was a carpenter by trade, I have zero experience writing anything but letters and cards, I already know I have made a crazy choice to attempt a script, but sometimes its good to test yourself. Right now I feel 99% sure I am doomed to fail but that 1% keeps niggling at me to get it done.

Hi Peerless, welcome. An ex-carpenter? Now that's fascinating. Just think of your story as a massive chunk of wood you want to turn into something extraordinary.

Ask the right questions, and you'll get the right answers. Good luck!

Welcome aboard, Peerless!

I can't live the buttoned-down life like you. I want it all. The dizzying highs, the terrifying lows, the creamy middles. Sure, I may offend some of the blue bloods with my cocky stride and musky odors. Oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called "city fathers," who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards and talk about what's to be done with this Homer Simpson?

Buy two books:  "Screenplay" by Syd Field and "Save the Cat" by Blake Snyder.  Read the script for "Absolute Power" by William Goldman which is available on this website.  Between those three things, you should be good to go.

Peerless,

It doesn't matter how you arrived at this point, it just matters that you did.

Something is saying within you that you have a story to tell, so don't worry yourself with 'not knowing anything'. Many who pontificate that they do know it all, very rarely do.

Good luck with it.
