Yeah. I just realized that I never introduced myself to the boards. Sorry, guys
Okay, so I've been writing for a while now, but only just got into screenwriting about a year ago. Yes, apparently I did live under a rock...
Anyway, I've just finished the first draft and quick edit of my feature, Lagi. (I should probably mention that I suck at titles. Seriously. Suggestions are always most welcome.) And my logline, courtesy of the brilliant Babz: An heiress goes to a tropical paradise to die when she finds life again, and a reason to fight.
You're gonna have to give more than a logline if you want help on a title, man. Give us a bit more meat to chew on and I'll be more than happy to spit some of it against a wall and see what sticks.
Okay, here we go... (Hope you don't hate it too much.)
It's a fantasy drama set on a Pacific island called Lagi. When Jasmine, dying of pancreatic cancer, escapes to the island, she finds herself living amongst an ancient civilization after being saved by Shay, their future chief. While on the island, Jasmine learns their history dating back to Adam and Eve and also becomes part of a love triangle/battle that she has no hope of winning. When her uncle comes to Lagi (on the premise of rescuing her but actually bent on claiming the island as his own) Jasmine must choose between the life/death she left behind and the new life she has discovered. Ultimately, her choice is what saves her and gives her the chance for a future of love and happiness.
And…‘The Waters of Lagi’ would actually work really well because the water plays a significant part in the story.
Sorry about the pesky questions. Sure you *say* you're kidding, but what's that famous quote...? Something about truer words said in jest...?
Not to get preachy here, but biblically speaking you could name it
"The Genesis Project"
or "Project Genesis"
or simply
"Genesis" not to be confused with the awesome band from the 80's or the awesome video game system of the same era.
Since we already have reference to Adam and Eve it would could work. But more than that we also have the dynamic that she has created life for herself, guised as a new start you said.
--
That's one route. But we can also take it into a traditional route here too...
"The Island Of I" -- Meaning this is where she found/discovers her true self. Could work.
or, my personal favorite in a punchy absurd Kick balls, bad ass kind of way.
"I-land"
--
Then we could go the ambiguous route...
"Kawthar" -- Which means river in paradise in Arabic.
--
When you say "fantasy" are we talking large scale sea battles and mythical shit? Are we speaking in terms of an Avatar-like movie?
Yeah it's more Avatar-ish, minus the giant blue humanoids I like Genesis or even The Genesis (?). A good yet unpreachy biblical reference.
I like The Island of I, but (if you'll pardon me for getting this deep) it could come off more as though she's all on her own, which for a while is true I guess, just not something to focus on overall. If that makes sense Which it may not...I'm on a crowded train and I tend to not make sense on crowded trains;)
Anyway, thanks so much! I usually have to ask friends for titles, and they suck at it almost as much as I do.
