Hello all.

I've been a member here on SS for just over a year now and I'd finally like to formally introduce myself... My name is Roy Trevelyan Whale. I also go by the name Arty, but to be honest I don't mind too much how you address me. I like the sound of King Roy though.

I'd like to appologise for never introducing myself before, I guess the reason I didn't was I felt slightly intimidated. Now though, partly inspired by the new crop of contributing members, I've realised there is nothing to be intimidated by. If you are honest and put in the time for others, you will reap the rewards. So with that said, this year I have made the conscious choice to be a participating member here on the boards, as well as getting more active with my own writing.

Anyway, a little bit about me... I recently turned 30. I live in a coastal town in the southwest of England called Newquay. My top 4 favourite films are The Shawshank Redemption, Garden State, Old School and The Big Country. Probably strange choices but each one has, for one reason or another, made me fall in love with it. They may be my top films, but IMO, the greatest thing ever put to screen is The Wire. Stunning television in every way. My favourite sport is football, though I believe most of you will call it soccer. In terms of your football I'm a Giants fan. And finally, I own an acre of the moon.

So there you have it. I hope my reviews help you as much as yours will no doubt help me.

Cheers all.

Roy.

ps if anyone has something they would like me to take a look at either pm me or leave the link below.

Hey Roy,

I know we’ve already sort of spoke but I wanted to welcome you to SS even though you’ve been a member longer than me but…that’s confusing! Anyway, Welcome!

ME, ME, ME!!!! You must mean me right? I’m so vain!

You said it yourself, put in the time for others and you will reap the rewards, I think you hit the nail on the head with that one.

Its football, not soccer mate. People here in oz also think its soccer because of Aussie rules but it will always be football to me. What team do you follow? I’m a Villa fan myself.

All the best and see you round the forum.

Hello Roy,

Good west country name.

I'm not too far away across the channel in Jersey, another good surfing venue, not that I do - waters always cold, sea weed etc

I would comment on your favourite films except I only know one of them - it may sound strange but I don't have a good knowledge of films. Not sure that's going to help me around here.

I think you have a script awaiting posting, I will keep an eye out.

Cheers

Bill

Welcome Arty -

You seem like an eclectic dude which is really cool - I'm responding though because you said you're a Giant fan, so "go Blue!" this weekend!

Also, I'd like to escape this Earth and a species that I understand less and less every day, so I'd like to enter into a lease for your moon acre. Given the state of the market, I'd like 18 years free rent, then we can begin at 2 cents an acre for 10 years with a 3% increase every 5 years. Also I'd like $1MM in tenant allowance since I'll have to load all my lumber onto a space shuttle...

Steve,

I'm quite tempted to change the post so it says 'only inspired by Steve CoopBazinga and noone else ever' just to keep you smiling. But yes, you are one of them. I'm a Spurs fan, exciting times it seems with an outside, but genuine title shot.

Bill,

I don't go in the sea for the same reasons, though I sometimes wish I had taken up surfing. And don't worry about not seeing certain films, I'm sure everyone here has a film they should see but haven't. Blade Runner is one of mine for example, I hear it's a big deal.

AJR,

My appologies, I don't know your name, but I've seen you around. You a Giant man too? I often wonder what it would be like to have Brandon Jacobs running at me and whether I could stop him, in my head it never ends well. As for the moon acre, I'll have my money guy go over the figures, I'll get back to you on it...

Hey Arty...

Welcome, even though you are old school compared to me I joined in October. I look forward to reading your work....

This moon acre though...intrigues me....do you have a shuttle so we can try it for the weekend?? Sort of like a time share? I would imagine, I'd get more work done on the moon without the interruptions of daily Earthlings!

Hi Dena.

Not sure I could think of something more inspiring then looking back at the Earth from the moon, think we'd all get a lot more done up there. Unfortunately I can't afford a shuttle yet, but if you can make your own way there you're more than welcome to stay on my patch, no charge.

Greetings Roy!

I like your new attitude, I think it will serve you well.
I was an amateur in every sense of the word when I joined the site.
For several weeks, I read as much by active members as I could.
So, when I uploaded my material, I got a bunch of reviews in return.

And that spring boarded into me attending pitch cons here in SoCal.
And those led me to spec jobs and intensive industry networking.

I wouldn't have the confidence to do that without the great active members of SS!

Good luck and keep writing and rewriting!

Regards,
E.D.

Hey Art

I am noticing more UK people having an American football team that they follow. Is this because of the recent NFL games played there?

You should consider the New "England" Patriots. I know, Boston is a sore spot for Brits, the whole Bunker Hill thing, but you do understand New York was a Dutch colony. Come on, the Pats play in Foxborough, can't get more British than that!

You got a nice place to escape to, the moon. Hope it's not the dark side.

See you around the SS shoolyard!

Hey E.D... Brett I believe?

Yeah, life is all about attitude and approaching things the right way. The way I'm spinning it is this is my first act, the nervous guy who needs to come out of his shell. In the third act I win the Oscar, get the girls (all of them) and pick up a nobel peace prize in my new job as president of the world!!!

Yo Kev,

I've followed 'football' on and off since the 95/96 season. I think I heard recently it's the fourth largest participation sport here now, though still a long way behind soccer, rugby and cricket. It certainly hasn't harmed the game that it gets hosted here though. And the reason I'm a Giants man is because of a girl, she even gave me some Giants slippers so I'm afraid I just can't change.

I'd be amazed if you could find someone in England who has heard of it!

Scar, you are right. I'd heard it mentioned but had no idea what it was, nothing a quick google search didn't fix. Boston also has more ties with the Irish than the English so maybe they've heard more about it than we have.

LOL! No chance Roy but I do like optimism and this coming from a Villa fan.

Steve,

I've supported Spurs long enough to know we could still mess it all up and finish 10th. We play City in a couple of weeks, I think that game will define whether we have what it takes or not. Champions league is what we're after though, I would say it's almost a certainty but don't want to give the kiss of death by saying so.

Lol, I was just teasing, Rick. How about the Boston tea party? Lexington and Concord? Do those still resonate?

It's funny, but I've always been an Anglophile. My grandfather, who when he died was the last white guy in the projects he lived in, didn't have a racist bone in his body. But he hated the Brits, cursed the queen all his life. But that's because of where he was born and his personal history.

My brother married a wonderful English girl. And I myself have tremendous respect for British culture, and feel a kinship as American culture mostly grew out of it. Hopefully someday I can see the country.

Art, we think of the Irish in Boston, but this area, New England, still has English roots everywhere you look. Every town name is English. This area was the seat of the rebellion against the crown, however. The rebellion was based on that peculiar British notion of taxation without representation. Our legal system still descends from British common law(except Lousiana).
