Hi! I just joined the site a couple of days ago. I first discovered screenwriting in University, but had to put it aside to focus on my course work and other hobbies. A couple of years ago a friend of mine directed me to the annual Script Frenzy competition, and I found that I'm enjoying it all over again.
I feel a strange drive to do something creative, even though I don't have much confidence in my writing. In any case, I'm hoping that by joining this site I'll be able to pick up some pointers and improve my abilities. I look forward to reading more scripts and learning more about the craft!
Welcome to the boards! Read a bit, review a few scripts...post and enjoy! We've got a great group here. SS is a terrific place to learn (you just have to be willing to dive in, and join the fray...)
Welcome to SS. It's a great place to learn, I've certainly learnt a lot since I joined, remember to contribute and leave feedback. This way, you're more likely to get feedback on your own work. Have you got any scripts in the pipeline?
Steve, to answer your question I haven't submitted any scripts yet. I wanted to get "the lay of the land" so to speak first. Seems like it was a good idea, as it looks like I need to do some reviewing first if I want to get good feedback.
In any case, I've only got two offerings, one for each of the years I've taken part in the Script Frenzy competition. Due to Real Life, I never completed the first one, something I corrected for the second attempt. Still, even my completed script is a big mess and I'm trying to learn techniques and methodologies and the more technical aspects of screenwriting to improve my subsequent attempts.
SS is a great place to learn and grow your writing skills. There are a lot of us here that only joined a short time ago. Enjoy your time here and I look forward to reading some of your work.
I've been a longtime member and infrequent poster, but there are a lot of great resources here. Learning proper format and structure is key to working professionally, and you have to know those rules inside and out, even if you break some of them. Just as important to know why to break rules at times as it is to break them in the first place.
Welcome. I noticed you had reviewed a few times and hoped you would stick around.
SS is a great place but how much you get out of it is really up to you. Try not to be sensitive to feedback is my best tip, really try and learn.
There is a competition, oh whoops a challenge, called the one week challenge OWC and if you feel up to it it is a fast track of learning for those of us starting out.
