I've gotten to know a little bit about a few of you just from participating in discussions, but I figured I'd formally introduce myself:
My name is Felipe. I was born in Brazil and moved to the US when I was 11.
After moving from place to place for my dad's job for 4 years, we finally settled in Massachusets. I went to high school and college (film school) there. As soon as I graduated I moved to Los Angeles with a group of friends and started my independent adult life in the film industry.
I work for Scott Free now and do as much writing and shooting as I can on a regular basis.
I recently had a pitch meeting and am in the process of signing a contract to direct for an established web content provider. Nothing huge, but it's pretty exciting to me. Maybe I'll have something to show you guys soon.
Anyway, I figured I'd give you a list of my favorite movies ever so you can get an idea of what poor taste I have.
In no particular order:
Rosemary's Baby Sunset Boulevard Magnolia City of God Adaptation Synecdoche, New York Citizen Kane Blade Runner The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford Boogie Nights
I'd like to thank everyone here for providing me with the motivation, guidance, and entertainment to fight through writer's block.
I'll see you out there.
'Artist' is not a term you should use to refer to yourself. Let others, and your work, do it for you.
I applied/was accepted to Emerson if that counts... Haha
In the end it was just too expensive. I went to Fitchburg State. Majored in communications with a concentration in film. It ended up being the right choice since it was more technical.
Thanks for the welcome, guys.

Well, small world, Felipe. That's where I live now. I grew up in Lawrence, went to Central C.H.S. My family moved to Andover about 15 years ago.
I went to Clark University in Worcester, majored in History. I took a job bartending there before my senior year, and after a time working in a dreaded office job in Boston, went back to the bar to manage it. I was there about 8 years, saving up, then I bought my own place, ran that for about 10.
It all fell apart, however, so I am trying to learn how to write. Been doing it a little more than a year. Never been to film school. Learned a lot here.
I mentioned Emerson only because I knew they have a big film department.
BTW, I wrote an OWC script in October that was loosely based on Andover. I discovered the story of Martha Carrier, hung as a witch in the Salem witch scare. Her land was somewhere near where I am now, which is near the old Abbot House. I found that story after the OWC began, doing online research, and I had to use it. The coolest part was her husband, in real life. 7'6, he was a Welshman from Britain who it was said had been the executioner of King Charles. He lived to be 109 years old. Supposedly when he arrived in Canada, he walked to Massachusetts. Think about that: no roads, hostile Indian territory.
Anyway, you seem like a good guy with a promising future, good to have you here!
Wow, that's pretty crazy. We both lived in Andover at the same time!
I'll have to check out your OWC script. Not that I know much about the story, but it sounds really cool.
Thanks for the kind words. I wouldn't have guessed that you've only been writing that long. You must have the natural talent, judging from your latest OWC script.

Seems strange saying hello after going through an OWC and a ULOWC (Christmas) together.
Mind you, i really appreciate knowing more about those on SS. Its a funny, worldwide community of very different folk, with a common interest. Nice to know who you are working with.
I live the other side of the atlantic on an island, the original Jersey. By day i am a property consultant, for an American company, and by night a would be writer.

Hello Felipe! Now I can officially tell everyone: I know someone named Felipe!
Wonderful to have you here on Simply! I don't know if this is on the charts where you're at or if you even care for any pop music, but I live in Alberta, Canada and this is one of those tunes that makes me want to hippity hop down the block.
