...about myself, as I've been lurking here for a few weeks and finally decided to jump in and start reading some scripts to get more immersed in the craft.  I'm an attorney by trade ( most attorneys are just frustrated writers, aren't they?) but have long dabbled with the idea of writing, either of novels or scripts, and I've come to the conclusion that most of the ideas are best communicated visually rather than in the long form, so I've been focusing more on scripts at present.

My biggest roadblocks are finding the time to write and eliminating the distractions--problems I'm sure NO ONE on this mess age board ever experiences  , but I'd love to find out how you overcame your obstacles.

I did recently finish a script for a pilot of a television drama, but I'm hesitant to post it because of concerns over copyright issues, since it is based on a book that I thought would play out much better as a series rather than a movie. After reading some other posts on this board regarding adaptations, I felt like discretion was warranted. Still, it felt good to finish something and I'm starting up another project. In the meantime, I'll keep reading the works of others and hopefully a rookie's comments won't seem too off putting.  Look forward to getting to know more of you over time!

Gary

Welcome to SS, Gary.

Any and all constructive comments are welcome.  Just taking the time to read someone's script and leaving your thoughts is more than enough IMO.  Looking forward to reading some of your work.

Hey there Gary,

Welcome aboard. Wouldn't worry about posting comments just because you're a rookie. Every opinion counts. Every now and then we get someone who throws up a fuss when they get negative feedback... They usually disappear quite quickly.

Trust me, there are plenty of things that distract me, this board being one of them. I often find myself not writing, but READING other scripts instead. I guess that's not a bad thing, as I've learned from both.

We all have distractions... Except maybe Dena, she's a machine with her writing from what I've heard.

Keep well.

Dan

Welcome aboard the Simply scripts fun bus Gary, with stops at writers block, posting anxiety, panned review and terminating at rewrite nightmare.

Only joking, welcome to the site, we're lovely really.  Honest.

Check out my scripts...if you want to, no pressure.

Thanks all--I've been doing a lot of reading lately (probably more than I should--need to spend some of that time writing), and written some very brief reviews just to get my feet wet. But people on this board seem very welcoming and appear to want to help new writers, and that's very encouraging.

Welcome aboard, Gary.

SS is a great tool and if used correctly, can be indispensible to learning the craft. The best way is to jump in and read a few scripts which will get you noticed and lead to getting your own work some reads once posted.

Look forward to seeing you around the boards.

Hey Gary,

Welcome to SS and don't worry about being a rookie, we were all there once.

I have several friends who are lawyers and dabble in film, maybe it's a release for their stressful job.

Look. Onward to reading your work.

Alex
