What's happening?

My name Is Rick. I was born in Wyoming, raised in Southrn' Illinios, and reborn on the beaches of Jacksonville, Florida. I am 37 years young. An ex-Navy man. I now spend my days living a quiet country life. I'm very eclectic and cultured, but I love my low key, slow paced life.

I am new to this site for the most part. I've been interested in converting my novels into script form. I just dig the style of how scripts are written. It takes imagination to write and read them.

Films that I could watch anytime and that influence my writing: The Fisher King, Jackie Brown, Boogie Nights. I absolutly loved HBO's True Detective and wish I could write something that awesome.

I was raised by my Grandmother. I have no sisters and few female cousins, so I feel writing female characters, espeacially female leads is a challenge that I embrace. Most of my stories have gone in that direction.  

Dialogue is something I value most when writing. Maybe that's wrong, but that's why I'm here...to learn.

I don't have much to do with social media sites, but I'm willing to be active in this one. I hope people out here won't mind me sending random inbox messages if I have a quick question from time to time.

I have two scripts posted on this site and I will share the links again. I recently learned that most scripts should be shorter than the 90-100 pages scripts I've completed. I'll keep that in mind for the future. Also they aren't done yet by any means, but pretty close... I hope.

After reading so many scripts from famous movies I've come to the conclusion that if I want to be a better script writer that I will have to disregard most of their writing styles. haha

This might all be "to much information" but I figured I'd give it a shot.

I have 6 scriprts that I picked out from all the unproduced work out here that I am currently reading. I look forward to reading more. I will give my comments and reviews too each as soon as I can.

Lots of people post scripts here and never even visit the forum. That doesn't mean you can't read and comment on the script. Just know that your review might fall of deaf ears. If you are looking for return reads on your own scripts however, it's best to read and comment on scripts written by active members.

Bear just got in before me, typical. You can pretty much read and review whatever script you choose to but yes, sometimes that person may not be active on the boards. Post a review and they may pop up, who knows...

So long as you also fraternize with the locals you'll be sure to get reciprocal reads. Hope you have fun here, there's no other place like SS imh.

P.S. Loved True Detective - Nic Pizzolatto was first and foremost a novel writer and I reckon it shows in his screenplays. Can't wait to see what he comes up with in the next series.

Just opened Under The Moonlight and discovered it's in WORD.

You've got the format right which is great, but what you want to do is download one of these:

The two above are free downloads. Or, you can choose one of the paid software. Example below, Final Draft. There are others.

The screenwriting software will make your job as writer a whole lot easier and your script will also look more pro. You can convert your files to PDF as well which is the regular format for uploading.

I'm kinda embarrassed at the shape my scripts are currently in. I defiantly look forward to reading reviews of my work, but until I get them polished up properly I totally understand if people want to wait.

Hey Richard,

You'll find that some of these software packages will allow you to transfer word or PDF over to them for almost instant formatting.

for instance, Trelby will allow several formats to be transfered over including PDF, Fountain and FD.

You will want to consider which is for you of course. I still use the free software TRELBY.

not so much because it's free, but because I like it.

And don't be embarressed bro.
