Just figured I'd say hi to everyone. My name is John. I'm new to the board as well as screenwriting. Back in high school I used to mostly write Short Stories. Started writing for extra credit in English and it kinda took off from there.
After an incident involving something I wrote, I kinda stopped writing. I haven't written a story in 15+ years but recently my creative side has been sparking up again. So I decided I'd give screenwriting a try. I've always wanted to get into some aspect of film making. I think I'd be happiest writing or doing video editing altho other things interest me like DP and set design.
I've read so many articles and watched many videos on youtube about screenwriting specifically and just writing in general (developing characters, 3 act structure, etc.) I've learned a good deal and, when I post something, I'll be excited to get feedback.
Right now I'm writing what will hopefully be a comedy/adventure screenplay. I say "hopefully" because comedy is not my typical genre. But hey, I'll give it a go. I'm in the process of writing the second act and when I have writers block I go back and edit/rewrite the first act. I'm hoping it comes out to a feature length sized script. I know I have plenty of work that needs to be done but I'm hoping to post something soon to get feed back atleast on my first act.
Welcome. I was like you around 6 years ago and it took me a few years to learn how to write a screenplay to a pro standard. You're going to have to persevere.
I'd also recommend that you continue to write short stories and even a novel. Don't put all your eggs in one basket, as the old saying goes.
I stepped away from thinking about doing anything film related for 15 years or so too myself. It can be a bit like alcoholism. But we're back. Heaven help us.
