hi guys, i am looking for either a pre-existing script or for someone to write a new one. it needs to be around 10mins long, set indoors either in a house or in a college building, using minimal props and no effects (although i do have a homemade blood pump). the actors available will be in their early 20s, male and female, although if the script is too good it might be possible for me to find someone older.

i am not looking for anything specific, so any genre's are welcome, . drama, horror or comedy would be considered, as would thrillers, although i would like to refrain from filming anything involving guns or that sort of tarantino-esque situations. rather, i am looking for a poignant script with mood, character and good dialogue, that is more than entertainment and that perhaps contains some sort of social/cultural/political relevance, if you know what i mean.

i need the script ready by about the 10th of may and will have no more than a week filming schedule followed by a week of postproduction. the reason for this is i need to submit the film to this film school (in england) by 10th june. it is because of these tight conditions that i need something extremely simple, with my home or university(college) as the set and with no more than 3-4 actors.

i have tried to write my own films so many times but am too self-critical, plus i really seem to be better at managing and developing a preconceived idea than making one up on the spot. i wrote one cheap zombie flick two years back (hence the blood pump), and we shot about half of it in this abandoned building, but had to abandon the shooting due to a number of reasons, some that were out of my hands, but mainly due to the overambitious and unproffessional script. since then, i have amassed a number of unfinished scripts but have not been able to finish a single one. i blinked and now i'm at the end of my BA, and desperately need an entry film to do my masters. i have no previous work to show for (not ones that i would want to use as an entry film, anyway) because my degree has been 100% theoretical so iv'e had no production workshops or anything but am competent with filming and have a crew of friends and available resources such as lighting and sound equipment. oh, i should also add that apart from my amateur filmmaking efforts, i have written and directed a few short drama performances during my college course (its Film&drama). i dont know why i could write the short plays but not short films.

so this is why i turn to you, oh writers. give me a chance and see if i can do your scripts justice. i cant offer any money because there will be no profit from making this film, but if you really want, i could maybe pay $50 or something. if it works well, you'd get your name credited on a nice film, which you can use for your cv. if not, the film is forgotten, but you still have a good script which someone else could have a go at directing in the future.

any offers? my e-mail is hsramli@gmail.com
remember, time is of the essence.

sorry if this breaks any forum rules. i can never tell.

thanks for reading guys

Flip through the short scripts section and see if anything catches your fancy.

hi phil,

yeah, i did flip thru quite a lot of the short scripts and to be honest i didnt really find anything suitable, either due to length or action (also, a LOT of the scripts are about morticians, like a LOT). the one closest to what i need was probably the story about the kid who keeps waking up and having odd dreams, but i dont like 'it was just a dream' stories, regardless of how one 'twists' it. there was also a story about a guy talking to himself in the mirror, but i felt that one dragged on for way too long and had many weak points in the dialgoue. plus,  a lot of the scripts hosted here arent accessible, and the links to them seem to go nowhere..

anyone else?

Sounds like the mortician scripts you read were the exercise entries from last year.

You said that you tried writing something on your own, but couldn't.  Could you fill us in on the idea?  There are a lot of writers who could definitely write something around it, if that's what you're looking for.

hi mike,

the thing is, i tried writing a few things on my own. unfortunately, i always dump the ideas because i'm too self critical. because of this, ive decided to try shooting someone else's script, as my level of criticism lowers when applied to others, i dont know why.
also, i find it near impossible to write really short scripts (around 10pages), as i can never figure out how do develop and grow in such a short time. i have ideas for feature lengths (but they are irrelevent now and im saving them for the future) but like i said, i find it impossible to write a coherent and quality narrative for short films.
but, if you (or anyone else) is interested, here are a few concepts that i started writing scripts for. they were all meant to be 10minute films.
-one about privacy and personal boundaries, involving a couple and a weird guy
-same concept, this time at a cash machine queue
-one about how we fear strangers and the inabilty to communicate, involving an ipod kid and some 'rough' kids
-one about macho hysteria, involving a couple of guys beating and nearly killing the wrong guy (they thinks he is the rapist they are looking for)

so there they are, i cant do shit with them, plus, due to constraints and fear of exposure problems, id like my next prohect to be filmed in a house, and most of the concepts are outdoors.

any ideas, mike, or anyone?
thanks

I might be able to work with that.

I'll email you something tomorrow.

Sounds like Mike has the right idea for you. Rather than looking for a script, see if you can find someone to write what you have in mind. Most of the regulars can bang out a 10 page script in under a week about practically anything and have some quality...we know this...we have exercises to prove it, hence the wealth of mortician scripts you stumbled across. Most of those were written in a week, but those exercises are for 15 pages or less.

So keep your PMs open, and see what comes of what you threw out there. I'm sure you'll get a few responses if you are patient. Most of us want the credit.

I have an idea, why don't we write this as a collaberative effort on here. It shouldn't take more then a couple days.

Here's what I have for the opening:

FADE IN:

EXT. HOUSE - MORNING

A man walks down the street.  He is DAVE (22).  He wears loose fitting casual garb, a last minute outfit that he had slopped together earlier that day.

His left hand shoved into his pocket.  A bouquet of roses rest in his right hand.

He walks up the steps to the door.  He pauses for a moment.  Unsure if he wants to continue.

He looks around.  He pulls his hand from beside his back.

For a moment he looks at the flowers.  His gaze then turns to the door.

He sighs and chucks the flowers aside and raps on the door.

He fidgets in place - nervous.

The door swings open.  In the entryway stands a woman, RAIN (21) She brushes back her hair and looks him over.  Disapproving and a tad annoyed.

Neither looks each other in the eye.

RAIN
Hey, you.

Dave forces a smile.

DAVE
Hey.
(beat)
Mind if I come in?

She steps aside.

RAIN
Sure, sure.

He steps inside the house.

CUT TO:

INT. HOUSE - MORNING

Dave continues walking past her.

RAIN
Why?

He stops and turns around.

DAVE
What?

RAIN
Cut the shit Dave.
(beat)
Why?  Why do you even bother?

DAVE
I wanted to catch up.  No reason we can't be friends, right?

She draws closer to him.

RAIN
That's the thing, Dave, I'm not so sure.

DAVE
What are you ever sure about?  Huh?  Rain, what are you ever sure about?

She sighs

RAIN
It's hard.  Ok. It's fucking hard.

DAVE
What's hard?  Are you incapable of being half way decent to me.
(beat)
After all the shit you gave me, you have the nerve.  The fucking nerve to tell me that it's hard?

She pushes past him, they both continue down the stairs and into the living room.

I wrote a short for him that he should be in the process of working on at the moment.

Maybe I should check in on that.
