I'm in the works for a new horror script. It's a zombie thriller and it's halfway complete. The first half was cowritten by Zack and I.  I need a cowriter for this venture.

I'm looking for it to be more of an infection film, then an outright zombie horror.

Oh God, why do I even reply?  Do you know how many people I've worked with who "drop out?"  Many drop out before they've even started.  They say they've got this great wild idea and need a co-writer or that they want help in some way, and then...

Anyways, yes, I'm still here.--still plugging along and ready to contribute to wild phantasmagorical ideas.

What's the plan Stan?

Can people work together and make it work?  Yes they can, but I guess they have to gel and be sincerely dedicated to the project.

I like working with "great" ideas and tightening everything up.  I'm definitely a detail person.  Send me what you've got and I'll give you my input.

Horror eh?  I love Anne Rice.

Talk soon,
Sandra

You might have been telling me about this last night but timing out and all I never got to ask... did you develop the story in the form of a treatment or just start with a general idea and write?

Normally when you co-write you should develop the idea with that person so you know where it is going.

When I worked with Nixon on Stoned Patriots 2 we put a lot of effort into a treatment as I remember and people liked it better than the first. later it was combined with the first and people liked that too but that's beside my point.

The point being bringing a new person in so late, you'd need a treatment and what's written so that they can familiarize themselves with the project and not dive in head first and basically the characters change in the second half.

I don't know if I could help you out in any way because I've never been a fan of the genre but do enjoy zombie films to a certain degree.

We just started with an idea and wrote. The method we went off with was that it was a first draft and rewrites are always in due course.

I dunno, for me it works well to do the back and forth method. Here, I'll send you the script in email and you can see if it might be your cup o tea.

I'd ideally like to put this past several writers and rewrites. Right now, while I and whoever jumps in on the second half are writing I'd like to find anyone who might be interested in doing a rewrite for part I.

The problem is when you have so many co writers you lose any control over the script because each of them want credit. I rarely get credit for all the stuff I do so it doesn't bother me much.

Do you have any clue as to where it is going and how? It is pretty hard to just wing it and come up with something good.

I do have an idea. And actually, I'm keeping it just between two writers at a time. Right now whoever responds to me for the rewrite will do the first one and then pass it off to the next writer.

So while I'm writing the second part, a writer will be adding his or her spin to the first one.

Everyone will get credit, though.

Oh and Sandra and Steve, check you email. I sent you the first draft.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh and I'll list here who's working on what, and whose in for a rewrite. Cause I agree, at once, too many writers spoil the stew. But if you balance it out, then it can work.

Also, if anyone is interested in the collab style, I write without plot line and basically just see what evolves between the two writers. When Zack and I wrote it we had a loose idea of what we wanted but how the script evolved was basically back and forth writing.

I might help more in terms of rewriting or what you and Zack prefer.

I'll send you what I have so far in an email. Tell me what you think of it.  I just need your email and I'll send the draft ready.

Sandra is working on the first rewrite. I may hold off with the second part until I see what happens with the first.

I've just received a pages of the new draft and the story is taken a completely different direction. Now I'm curious what happens in the script that I initially wrote. I dig it actually.

I have no attachments to what happens to the story. Basically, I want the rewrites to be free range for the authors.

So far Sandra and James are the two others who are doing rewrites. Sandra is doing an initial rewrite and James will do a rewrite of her rewrite.

I'd like at least one more writer on board before I begin working on part 2.

The idea is that each writer will bring in something new and each draft may dramatically change, but in the end the product will be something that is unique and the result of a team of good writers.

Just to keep everyone updated.

I just want to thank "I Swear I'm not Sane Like You" for the opportunity to work with him and some of the other writers with the same desire: to produce something that develops from a small seed or "snowball" and rolls on and on getting bigger and bigger... and it feels so good to be a part of something like this.

I can't wait until I'm finished with my part and I can pass it on to the next runner in this marathon.

I can see that "Cielo" is going to be a great movie.  We're going to give this a lot of nurturing and it's going to grow into a a beautiful baby.

Thanks again for making this happen.  What an experience!

Sandra

Zack,

A little advice since you are/were involved in a massive collaborative effort.

Prepare to see some of your "children" killed.  It's just the nature of the beast.

Is this script the one that starts like;

EXT. SHORELINE - NIGHT

Waves crash on a darkened grass shoreline. A harsh light scans overhead.
Heavy breathes sound in the darkness.

A dark figure passes quickly beneath the heavy light. The light tries to follow, but it loses the figure.

Footsteps rustle in the brushes. A figure calls in the water.

Yes that's the script.

Mike, I'm aware that alot of my stuff might not make the cut. But I'd like to see something of mine not be thrown away.

Yeah, hey alot of my stuff is changed, too so really don't feel too bad. Remember when I first contacted you about drafting a collaberation? We basically rewrote that entire script from scratch.

And either way, the people on board are very capable writers and I fully trust the product they'll turn out.

J Gomez, I'll see what I can send you. Right now Sandra is doing the first rewrite, then I'm sending it to James. And after James, I'll forward you a draft.

Also, If he's not too busy, I'd love to get Sean onboard. Zombies is his forte and I'd really want him to contribute to a rewrite.  Well, at least I have my fingers crossed.

I'm sure you'll be fine in that regard.I've been involved in a collaborative rewrite process for about a year and a half now.  Not as much of a collaborative effort now as it was, but even when we started over from scratch some of my stuff has always made it into the newer drafts.

Just how many writers are you getting in on this thing?

I'd hate to see some of my work rewritten over and over like that...

Especially before I'd sold it. But it does make for an interesting experiment.

If it weren't for Chris and Zack, this wouldn't be emerging out of those BLACK WATERS.

After Sandra E. uncontrollably embroils innocent writers into a confusing drama involving Choronzon, the demon of chaos, James is left swimming inside the torrential sea of intemperate dreams.

Who will save this poor group of Abramelian story weavers?  Will Chris help Cole to save our souls?

Stay tuned.

The story has taken a turn for the bizarre and I can't wait to see where James takes the story.

Again, I'm glad I held off on part two since part one has taken such a dramatic turn.

Is he contributing to this work?  I think he deserves a better answer than:

Which really is not in keeping with the collaborative spirit of your project.

Also, if you are no longer seeking additional cowriters -- and you should stop, as it seems you have plenty now -- I would suggest giving this thread a proper title -- that is, the actual working title -- and moving this over to the WIP thread for updates.

Hey, it's my tiny, little IMDb!

Alright. Sorry Dslah about that. I posted an early draft on the IMDb board and got a lot of "someone will rip this off" post there.

Also, the opening they cited would of only been known if he was A. Zack or Sandra, or if B. He read my post on IMDb and came over here.

If Dslah is a writer interested, then I am sorry about that.

Bert is right. I'm going to lock this thread since I've got the writers I want to be onboard. If anyone is interested drop me a pm. I'm moving this into a WIP, now.
