While at a thrift shop a few weeks ago, I picked up a copy of something called "Blade Runner 2: The Edge of Human" for 25 cents.  I found it to be a bit uneven overall, but with flashes of brilliance, and a very satisfying conclusion.

I thought to myself that if ever I were to "waste my time" with an adaptation, I would tackle this story -- tweaking the things I did not care for -- starting with that dorky title.

A little research, as I suspected, reveals this has already been done -- starting with that dorky title.

There is apparently a damn fine script floating around out there called "Blade Runner Down."

It is considered to be unproducible, and will probably never see the light of day.  I can find plenty of stuff "about" the script, but not the script itself.

Is there anybody out there in cyberspace that has this squirreled away on their hard drive?  I would really love to see this script.

It was supposed to have been written by someone named Stuart Hazeldine -- a British author (I think) that I am not familiar with -- nor did I recognize anything from his resume.

People who have (allegedly) seen the script are very impressed with it, though.

I’ve written three feature lengths and several shorts since DiDM.

My last feature length was a comedy action. It’s got a noir detective, gangsters, Uzis, promiscuous sex, casual masturbation, and a superhuman woman who survives off (CENSORED). It has a guy who gets his head repeatedly run over by a truck and another scene has a guy getting football kicked in the groin and flying through the roof.

What more could anyone ask for?

Seriously though Bert; from what I understand, this script, although never produced, is the script that got Hazeldine an agent, which eventually led to his first sold and produced script. So fan fiction isn’t necessarily a waste of time even though it may never be produced.

I'd been looking for the script for a few years too, but have never seen it online, the closest being the few outlines / descriptions posted here and there. Even though it's 10 years old, it's off this never leaked out.

Go ahead with your own adaptation though, I wasn't crazy about Jeter's BR novels, and most of us would love to read a good new BR script.

And don't consider it a waste of time ( even though you had that in quotes originally, so you don't seem to feel that way either), any writing is worthwhile. A writer writes. I'd done one adaptation, and have been trying to outline Jack Kirby's New Gods into a big epic sci-fi script for some time now.

Hey, thank you, Nik -- I appreciate it -- but some kind (and unnamed) soul has already passed it along to me.

Don't ever let anybody tell you this board is not a good resource.

And the script is pretty good, too.  Better than the book -- although it does lose the clever screw-job for Deckard at the end that I was quite fond of -- and I think ditching that dark twist for a happier, Hollywood ending was something of a mistake.
