What's up guys...

I'm most likely going to enter a short film competition, judged by Kevin Spacey and other influential personalities from the UK film industry. Top prize is £30,000 (around $45,000) funding for your next short film, as well as backing from the UK Film Council. I don't need to say how sweet a prize this is.

But anyway, with the help of my step-brother (I posted his short a few weeks back - About the 'killing factory'), and a good friend of mine (who is a qualified DP, and owns a $5,000 HD video camera as well as other equipment), I think I could direct a pretty solid little short, and have a pretty strong chance of at least making it to the final 12.

So yeah, I've got two 2-pager's that I wrote, but I want to have a little selection, so me and my 'team' can choose what we feel is the best one.

The film has to be under two and a half minutes (including credits), so the scripts really do have to be two pages, or under. And the film (sadly, very, very sadly) can't be more than a PG... Which sucks. But oh well.

I'm not definitely entering the competition, but right now, it seems very likely I will. I probably won't be shooting for at least another month or so, but I just want to get this all planned out in well enough time.

Cheers,

Toby.

^^ Unfortunatly so. I'm most annoyed that I can't use violence... As was my step brother, as all of his shorts have been very weird, and very violent.

How did your entry do last year?

That's interesting. Must be attracting a lot of filmmakers this comp. I got an e-mail today from someone in Manchester who offered to pay me to write a short for this.

One thing I wrote was entered last year... also made by a filmmaker in Manchester btw.

This guy told me though that there would be children and families watching so no bad language or drug or alcohol abuse.

I got that email too. Must be a mass mailing.

It's definitely worth entering.

I'm the guy who filmed Pia's short. It was well received by the public. Think it was a bit dark for the actual competition though

I'd aim for a U if I were you, something very light hearted.

The competition is worth entering. It's extremely subjective in its approach though. How some of the films (one in particular) were selected over some of the others was beyond me, but that's the nature of the beast I suppose.

The best film from last year was the Hobbyist IMO. It was a lot of fun and was well handled.

Good luck with it. Doubt I'll be entering the contest myself due to time constraints, but you've got me tempted again.

Is the film you shot online anywhere? I want to watch it

And the script I'm leaning towards shooting is a lean one-pager... It is definitely a PG. It's a little too dark to be a U, but there's no violence, sex, bad language, drug or alcohol abuse...

And I thought the film that one last year, that "Black Hole" one was pretty cool... Not the best, but eh, it was pretty neat.

Actually it is:

The black hole was one of the better ones. It was well produced, although it was a little uninspired IMO, just the old monkeys paw story re-told. I can see why people liked it though.

Ahh yes, I remember watching that on the Virgin website last year, and liking it. I was very surprised when I then saw it posted here, and that Pia wrote it. I liked it man, it was effective.

Where did it place in the comp? Did they say anything about the dark topic matter?
