I am not sure which subforum I should post this but here goes
I found this site quite by accident sometime ago as I was looking for interesting stuffs to read. I am pleasantly surprised by the creative output of many on this site and I enjoy reading their works. I do have a few questions about you folks here.
1) What motivates you to write a screenplay?
2) Reading some screenplay seem to remind me of earlier Hollywood movies, so at what point does your screenplay becomes an original work and not a copy of some earlier work?
3) Has anyone seen the Battlefield Earth screen play? I read the book and saw the movie (it was awful) and I wanted to see if the movie really follow the screenplay
I agree, this site is amazing. I've grown quite a bit as a writer since I got here. To answer your first question, about 20 years ago I wrote a very bad and amateurish version of the screenplay I have posted here. About a year ago I was siezed by an idea of how to make it work. And the rest is history. Actually it's me sitting in my basement in a bathrobe, which I'm not sure is anyone's definition of history, unless they unearth my bones in 100 years. Okay I'm rambling...
Looking forward to reading your stuff and your posts. If you're looking for reads, I shamelessly direct you to the titles beneath my post... (-:
1. Fame. Glory. A deap-seated subconcious desire to sleep with Audrey Tatou. And Kate Winslet. Preferably at the same time. And I wouldn't be doing any sleeping either.
2. When I say it does, and as long as nobody catches me.
3. I wouldn't like to be in the same country as that piece of pooh, let alone the same room. Even the stills look shite. Likely to find it on here or here. I'd say the movie does. I do believe Travolta lost a small fortune on it, as well as his mind.
1) Some sort of deadline, usually self imposed. As far as writing screenplays in general, it's not like I had any choice - once bitten it's hard to stop writing them.
2) There's only a few stories and sometimes they get told differently.
3) The movie was awful. Do not even bother watching it.
3) I read the book and I thought it was pretty decent sci-fi fare and I was wondering how could they have screwed it up so badly in the film? I was hoping to see the screenplay and see if its just poor writing or poor directing that got them hammered at the box office.
If you click the "Portal" button then, on your right, you can see a list of the "Top members", both Geroge Willson and Bert are on the list (I was joking about Bert though, he wrote a Medical book).
