Hope I'm in the right section, here's my question: I have a script for a TV pilot and query letter prepared, but I'm not exactly sure how to proceed. I have an IMDb Pro account, so I have listings for studios, production companies and agencies. It seems in most cases the contact lists are generic and it's not clear who might be the appropriate person on staff to send my query letter to. Can anyone make suggestions here? Should I be mailing it with a stamped return postcard, or is it considered acceptable to email my letter if I can figure out the right contact? Thanks in advance!
while we're at it, and this probably has been asked before, and maybe there's a thread somewhere about it, so excuse me for not taking the time to search, but what exactly is a query letter?
A query letter is sort of a cold call on a studio or production company asking them if you can send your script to them. A web search will give you the general formats to follow, but I've come across nothing for dealing with a TV series as opposed to a movie script, and a lot of the advice is dated by at least a couple of years. It seems electronic correspondence is popular and sometimes expected in other walks of life, so I'm wondering if anyone knows if that is true in this case. I've tried searching these forums for query letter information and not found anything specific to this question. Hopefully somebody has some info.
