Do any of you ladies or gents have a copy of 'The Equalizer' that Carson reviewed on scriptshadow today? Sounds like my cup o tea.

If you do have it could you send it to me at 'artywhale at hotmail.co.uk', it would be very much appreciated.

Cheers all.

Have got the first draft that Carson reviewed a couple of years back and also gave an "impressive" - Can send you that if you like?

Yes please, rolo.

It says on scriptshadow that he was reviewing the first draft anyway so it could be the same one, though it seems strange he would review the same script twice.

Unless I am mistaken, the company producing the film asked him to take down his original review.

You can download the script here:

I tried to read this script, gave up at about page 60 in. Very unoriginal script.

It's written nicely, short and to the point.

But the whole story is so "been there done that" it's not even funny. We've seen it in a 100 movies and tv shows. Russian mob, hookers, girl that's in a bad spot, badass guy with an unknown past and so on. In my opinion it doesn't get any more cliched than this for an action movie.

Demento,

I agree, but I also agree with Carson -- give a story like that to a shitty writer and you'll have your cliché story.

I think Wenk did a great job -- great dialogue, badass scenes, a badass protagonist who's extremely likeable.

Sometimes that's all you need to elevate a cliché idea.

But, that's just how I feel.

I remember The Equaliser when Edward Woodward played the main part. If they've stuck to how it was in the 80's then it will be proper cheese. So long as there is plenty of action though the story can go to hell. That's what action films are all about. Average story with plenty of action.

Here's Edward, back in his hey day.

Here's a link to a youtube video of the 1980's intro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uB1NiNKwueE

I thought it might be my cup o tea and it turned out it was.

I'm with levy and Carson on this, McCall is both incredibly likeable and totally badass. It's the kind of story that doesn't need to be too clever or over complicated. It's the sort of film you can just sit down, switch off and enjoy for what it is.

Whilst reading I found myself comparing McCall to Liam Neeson in Taken which I'd say is a good thing. He also reminded me of Jack Reacher, and as I'm a massive fan of Jack Reacher that's just another box ticked in the plus column as far as I'm concerned.

The writing style was a bit hit and miss for me, but I read it all in one sitting with only a quick break to roll a spliff, so I'd say it was mostly hit over miss.
