I love this franchise, though I never saw the TV show, for which I am grateful.
Strong opening. I was hooked in. Nice visuals (SCREEEECH aside) and good tone. It's on point for a Freddy show.
And then we get to a totally pointless scene at school. There's nothing there. The other characters don't come in to play, we don't learn anything new, it's just a soapbox scene to talk about politics and the media. Waste of time.
It picks up right after that in the cemetery. Intriguing stuff, I like it. Exactly how it should play out. Back at home, the character development with Rod works well enough, and then Ann's next dream sequence is...talking with Krueger. And his old hamminess is on display. I'm getting a bad feeling about this now, it doesn't match the opening's tone at all.
Charles coming back here is terrific. I was thinking the whole time Ann wasn't believing him that Charles should just kill her, but that won't happ--oh, snap! He does! Nicely done, and you avoided setting up a character just to die by having her ultimately live. Well played.
And Charles played right into Krueger's hands, which is why it was Charles who Krueger spoke to in the dream. It works.
So here's my problem: this all works great for a reboot, but not for a TV show. It's a movie. There's nothing here to suggest what each episode will be like. At best, it's a mini-series, but still not a TV show.
Still, I enjoyed it. Thanks for entering, and good job. |
