Before the govenors... before the travesty that was "Rollerball"... there was "Predator," one of the best Sci-Fi/Action movies ever made (even better than "Aliens").

What's so great about "Predator" is its versatility.  It starts as a war film... turning into an action flick... and rolling into a monster movie.  God, I love this film!  Jesus, it has everything!  Guns!  Muscles!  Women!  Aliens!  Big fucking knives!

Christ, I love this movie!

When a remote group of guerilla fighters station themselves in a South American jungle, the commandos are called up.  Schwarzenegger... Ventura... Weathers... Big Indian Dude!  Basically, the biggest badasses that could be formed into a team with the sole purpous of kicking ass.  And they do... but against what they had no idea was lurking in the jungle.

The first half hour or so deals with the fight against the guerrillas, with some great action sequences.  The rest, though, deals with the aforementioned badasses becoming the hunted rather than the hunters.  What was started as a routine, kick-the-bad-guys'-asses mission transforms into the ultimate test for survival.

This is a truly epic action flick.  From the blood and gore (which there is a lot of) to the almost documentary-style of filmaking in the lush jungle (whether is be a studio backlot or actual rain forest).  This is certainly both Schwarzenegger and McTiernan's best (you know, before both of them lost their minds).

Movie: **** out of ****

DVD Extras: **** out of ****

This is a great set, with a fantastic, lively commentary and some fascinating documentaries (wait until you get a look at the original, dreadful designs of the Predator itself).  The deleted and alternate scenes are nothing special, but appreciated.  Meanwhile, the red-suit jump tests are just hillarious.

As an added bonus, the fine folks at 20th Century Fox also included a free ticket for "Alien Vs. Predator."

...

Don't pass judgement 'til the film comes out... don't pass judgement 'til the film comes out... don't pass judgement 'til the film comes out... don't pass judgement 'til the film comes out... don't pass judgement 'til the film comes out... don't pass judgement 'til the film comes out... don't pass judgement 'til the film comes out...  don't pass-

PG-13?  YOU'VE GOTTA BE F**KING KIDDING ME!

Alright, alright... sorry.
