I just started watching this show and wow...this is one of the best written TV-series I've ever seen. Not just great characters and great dialogue but thrilling storylines.

And the best part is, it's not based on twists, but on good old fashioned well-structured drama.

If you don't know the show, it's about a forensic lab-rat who hunts down murdrers and serial killers in his spare time and kills them. Because, he himself is a psycopath and as he puts it "not part of the human race" so the only way to keep his bloodlust at bay is by following the intructions of his foster-father who told him to never kill someone unless it serves a purpose.

There's a line of dialogue that just stuck with me, to illustrate how sharp and witty the show is:

Quoted Text
As Dexter is preparing a room for a kill (wrapping everything in plastic), the chord to his powerdrill (don't ask) is too short.

DEXTER (V.O.)
If God is in the details, and if I believed in him, God would be in this room with me now.
(pauses)
I just wish he'd have brought an extension chord.

or the very thematic

Quoted Text
If I had a heart it might be breaking right now.

I'm only at episode 3 so far, but I'm hooked. I like how they actually make Dexter's struggle with finding and recognizing human emotions sympathetic. We really want him to be a human being.

Anyone else watch this show?

I do. I can't wait for season 2. The actor is phenominal. He portrays dexter well. I became an instant fan that I  read the books. The books, imo, are better. But I credit the show alot for their creativity.  I got the first book and second. Soon this coming sept. I'll have the thrid.

I have also become recently hooked to this show. I think the writers and producers are doing a fantastic job with the show. Not only is the character of Dexter enthralling, the support characters are as equally enthralling!!

I love Jennifer Carpenter on the show. I know a lot of people hate her for some reason, but I think she's an amazing actress, especially in the season finale.

And I like the way she looks too. Pretty, but like a human being too. Her face has character, you know?

EDIT: Rob, I can never post again.

I've watched a number of seasons of Dexter.  It's a well-written show with good production values.  I'm not really sure if I actually like it, however, because the hidden political agenda it so cleverly pushes kind of disgusts me.

No girl drops F-bombs like Jennifer Carpenter. such a turn-on.

Dexter is an awesome show.

Love LaGuartas character as well... she's spicey with the mind of a great poker player.

And what political agenda would that be, good sir?

My love for Dexter has waxed and waned over the seasons...
But right now, I'm so waxing!

Really enjoying the mental challenges Hanna brings to the table for Dex.
And I'm even wondering if Deb set up Hanna with the water bottle!!!

Regards,
E.D.

Love Dexter, absolutely adore this show. After season four, I stopped watching but I'm trying to get back into it.

Have to agree here that the season finale was strong.
Dexter has always appealed to me based on one simple unique thing...

The things that challenge Dex's philosophy and lifestyle.
After the Bay Harbor Butcher, these conflicts are the most interesting.

Rita. Being the best and longest of those challenges.
And they coupled that with Lithgow's fantastic Trinity Killer.

After Bay Harbor and Trinity, I have to say this season slots right behind those.
Also dug the Russian mob dude. Lots of good stuff this year.

I hope the show ends on a high note next season!

Regards,
E.D.

You honestly don't see it?  Man, that's clever writing. Look at the show at face value - what's it saying?
