Quoted from Zack
Just got back and my blood is still rushing. This is hands down the best monster movie I've ever seen. Don't try to argue with me, I'm right.
~Zack~

I won't argue with you on that point but with a share of the title I would add the Korean monster movie "The Host" in a tie and agree with you.

This film just works.

The things I do not like are so small that they can be ultimately avoided when watching the film. (Like the fact that the parasites look like bugs from Starship Troopers, the film plays like a teen slasher flick, a couple of the characters are cliches and so on and so forth.)

Anybody know what happens to Marlena when she explodes?

It is not explained very well in the director commentary or the making of on the DVD. I'd like to think a parasite explodes from her chest. Like they can only infect women and they give birth of sorts to parasites.... although that is probably far from the truth.

Saw this movie a couple of weeks ago and I most admit I was pleasantly surprised. This movie was actually really really good and while, at times, it seemed simply not bealiveable that somebody would be filming certain things instead of hauling ass I could totally live with it cos' the thrills kept the story flowing nicely.

i had heard for a while this movie was really good, and when i saw all the die hard filmers on this site give this movie a thumbs up...i knew i had to check it out.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS

i really liked this movie on all levels... there are some nit picky things like how did the monster sneak up on them at the end, and i thought it was strange that everyone started taking pictures of Statue of Libery's head after it almost crushed them, the characters refusal to the ditch the camera... but nevermind.

i disagree with several of the complaints about this movie.

I did not think the beginning was long at all... i loved the fact that a monster movie actually took the time to set up and establish its characters. it gets you more into the movie when they start falling one by one to the creature. how can you not feel for what happened to Marlena and the eventual fates of Beth and Rob?

i thought it was very realistic that the character that survived and the circumstances surrounding how they survive is totally random. there's no rhyme or reason for it... its just how it happened... very much like real life tramas.

the movie takes its cue from blair witch in the way it tells its narritive... using a home video camera to document the experiences that happens to these characters. what i thought was effective was the footage that is being taped over is shown... and the way it ends...

very sad, and effective... genius writing by Drew Goddard who is one of the cheif writers on LOST and has penned several of the best episodes so far including "The Man from Tallahassee", "flashes before your eyes"  and "the man behind the curtain"
