If Simply Scripts had a little icon picture of two thumbs up or more, I'd use that because this is by far the scariest movie I have ever seen in my life.

REC is about a TV news crew hanging out with the fire department for an episode of "While You're Sleeping." The department gets a call of a woman trapped in her apartment room (or something like that) so they go and "investigate." When they get there, almost all the residents are escorted downstairs and they go check up on the woman, who late attacks one of the police officers who were already there. Soon people begin to die, and wake up as a crazy person and the apartment begins to grow more and more infected. Unfortunately, they can't leave due to the fact that the whole building becomes quarantined and they're trapped in there left to die (okay, maybe I'm being a bit dramatic).

So, I thought that The Descent was the scariest movie I've seen (actually, it didn't really scare me, but it scares everyone else, so it might as well scare me), but after watching this, even in poor quality, it still scared the living shit out of me. There were so many scares that I can't even count, intense chase scenes, pop out scenes that I didn't expect, and I even screamed during this movie. It takes A LOT to make me scream during a horror movies, so I give this movie so many props for that.

The camera work isn't the best, though I expected that to happens since it's a POV-shot type deal like The Blair Witch Project or Cloverfield. There were parts where it was way too shaky and when that happened it got all pixelated so I had no idea what I was seeing. But then again, like all POV-shot movies, it made it seem real.

I don't understand some Spanish (okay, like, half the language, and yes, this is a foreign film), but the acting seemed great. Everything seemed believable just by looking at their expressions and the tone of their voice and stuff.

I thought that this film was really well-made and that it was very unique. It's your average zombie movie, but the fact that it's set in a small apartment complex and just crazy enough because it's small and there's always only one way in and one way out, so there's really nowhere to run/hide. There are quite a few ways they use the narrow staircase which make it just as suspenseful and I think that this movie is just really, really unique.

So yes, this movie is unique, scary, suspenseful, intense, etc. I was screaming, running in my chair, shaking, creeped out, teary-eyed (not that I felt bad for the characters but I was just getting really freaked out), and lemme tell ya, no movie has ever made me do that. You may think I'm sounding a bit dramatic, but it's true.

UNFORTUNATELY...They're making a remake of this film which looks absolutely terrible, and for the fact that the trailer looks exactly like the original's trailer, which doesn't give me high hopes for this upcoming film. I recommend everyone to see the original first, because I'm sure you'll enjoy that one more. And I'm sure they'll start selling it here in America when the remake comes out soon some time in August.

Finally saw this the other night.

Although I really enjoyed it and thought it was intense and well done, I didn't think it was head and shoulders above Quarantine, like most seem to think.  In fact, I found Quarantine much easier to follow, and actually, a superior effort.

Maybe it was due to the sub titles which made it tough to keep up, with all the frantic stuff going down so quickly.  I don't know for sure.

I really enjoyed the beginning, before things got crazy and thought it was incredibly realistic and believable.  Once things started going bad in the apartment building, it was tough to follow, because of the poor lighting, poorly established characters, and sub titles.

[REC 2] should be arriving this weekend, so we'll see how that stacks up, as I've heard great things about it.

This movie is definitely not for everyone or even most, but it's a damn solid effort on a small budget that is very effective in what it sets out to accomplish.

i really enjoyed [REC]. not the scariest film ive ever seen, but definitely worth watching. the night vision stuff at the end is super creepy and way scarier than any of that paranormal activity bullshit.

thanks for reminding me to put REC2 on my netflix queue. totally forgot about the sequel until now. rottentomatoes said the the sequel is almost as good as the first one.

Right on.  [REC 2] just became available on Netflix.  There was a long wait, but I'm pretty sure it'll be shipping my way today.

The sequel to Quarantine is also going to be available very soon.  It had a VERY limited theatrical release.  It does not follow the storyline of [REC 2], though, which may be a good thing.

To me the first [REC] was the best film in the zombie genre in the new millenium so far. [REC 2] was a great sequel. It continues directly from the first movie's ending, and it took the whole premise to another direction. The next two films from the people behind the movies are going to be a sequel and a prequel. I can't wait to find out more about the mythology behind the story.

I did not like Quarantine. It had way too much filling compared to the original, the camera work was less authentic and (though I do like Dexter) I don't think Jennifer Carpenter was the right choice for the role. Quarantine 2 has a different story line, and it takes place inside an airport - Could this be the first in a series of sequels always set in a different quarantined building with different people? Not an ideal situation. I am going to watch it, though.
