The original MBV is remembered for 2 things. 1.) The killer was very iconic and creepy. 2.) The core group of victims were adults, not teenagers. This new film has both of these things... in amazing REAL-D.
This movie is a blast to watch. Sure, the characters in the movie are idiotic and the ending twist isn't very hard to see coming. But you know what? It doesn't matter. You're not here to watch intelligent people battle against Harry Warden. You wanna see Harry off the idiots in 3-D.
The 3-D is what makes this film. It's amazing. It never once felt gimmicky. I felt like I was there. The 3-D isn't just things popping out at you... it's the whole movie. It has depth-of-field and it's breath taking.
Now onto the gore. WOW. How this film got an R rating is beyond me. We've got eye gouging, naked chicks being disemboweled, jaws flying off the screen, and just about everything else a gore hound could want.
I also enjoyed the winks to the original. The "corpse in the dryer" was iconic in the original and the awesomely recreated in the new film. Another thing to note is the acting. It's surprisingly good for a slasher flick.
So I say go see it. It's everything it's advertised to be. A fun popcorn flick.

Ha ha you just explained why it got an R rating yourself!
Any way, my friends and I went to see this movie and were disappointed. No, it was a mediocre movie, nice gore, some gross-out moments, except it WASN'T IN 3-D!!!! We were going to leave because it wasn't, but I spent $24 on tickets without a refund or exchange (I got them online so we would be able to get tickets, though there were only 10 people in our theater. Pissed off right now.) So we missed out on that. Though my friend, with his active imagination, pretended that it was in 3-D and grabbed at the objects that were supposed to fly out at ya. The 3-D Part was actually the only reason we went to see this movie. I've never seen a 3-D movie in theaters before so I don't know what it's like. I really hope Final Destination 4 is going to be 3-D in our theaters or I'm really going to smack a ho.
Okay, now that that is out of the way....The acting...Eh. I almost burst out laughing when Axel Palmer popped out from behind the curtain when Tom was getting stitches in his arm. What I didn't like about the movie was how there was action, then long scenes of boring dialogue, then action, then more boring scenes of dialogue, and the ending dragged on FOREVER. I was about to fall asleep, actually. The gore was pretty good and the part I really reacted to was when the old cop-guy got his chin ripped out.
And I especially felt bad for the Hotel manager lady. Ha ha. She was so tiny and innocent! Come on!
Any way, decent movie. I really think they should have released it on February, Friday 13, though I think it would have lost to the Friday the 13th movie (is that coming out then?). Perfect date movie.
just came in from this! i was kinda disappointed, it was fun and the 3d was pretty good i didn't find stuff flew out though it mainly just added depth. i'd never watch it again not in 3d ahah but i guess it wasn't too bad!
As a movie, it's okay, but in 3D, it's just awesome. Really got a kick out of the grocery store chase scene, as well the opening shovel death. Nice nod to both Wrong Turn and Day of the Dead.
I wonder if the Blu-ray will feature a 3D version of the movie.
I was actually pleasntly surprised with this! I'm obviously dating myself here, but I remember seeing the original at the theater, and I wasn't impressed at all. It's funny, cause this movie didn't get alot of fanfare and has rarely been on any movie channels. I'm really surprised they chose this to do a remake of it.
BUT...it wasn't bad at all. The effects were very well done and the new 3D (Real D) was amazing! I've seen tons of 3D movies at the theater, going back to Friday the 13th 3D, and Jaws 3D. They've really got it down now, and as Zak said, it's not just the "popping out at you" effects that make this so entertaining...it's that everything has such wonderful depth. The titles, for instance, really set the stage for what we were in for. Very well done.
The story, plot, etc. were pretty weak, and the way the "killer" always showed up in the perfect place, at the perfect time for a kill, was ridiculous. The twist reveal, although pretty well executed, wasn't really fair, based on an earlier scene that played as if it was really happening. But it was a wild ride, for sure.
I've got to give this movie props for pulling off the highest body count I can remember, in terms of individual kills. Same for the blood and gore amounts...crazy! And finally, HUGE propos go out to any mainstream movie that manages to have a hot babe getting banged, who then stands up, buttass naked, with full frontal disclosure, talk for what seemed like a long time, while still being buttass naked, and then run outside, for another eternity, finally running back inside, hiding under a bed and getting "holed", while still lovingly showing us that beautiful, buttass naked body.
If you're an old school horror lover, you'll enjoy this new, ramped up gorefest for sure.
PS You need to check the theater to make sure it is a 3D showing, as they're showing both. The 3D option is an additional $2.00 and well worth it! You can also keep the glasses, which are a shockingly updated version of those old cardboard or cheapass plastic stuff.

I believe Zach is saying "I can't believe this one didn't get NC-17!" I haven't seen it, but you can get away with a lot in an R-rated film, and it's actually all about atmosphere more than what is actually going on.
You'll recall Titanic showed breasts and yet, got a PG-13. Why? It wasn't sexual. It sounds like our poor nude chick was there, but it wasn't sexual. If you go full frontal during a sexual scene, you get NC-17, but if you get nudity without the sex, then it's not. Weird, huh?
Now, not having seen the movie, I can't comment on the gore factor vs. rating. I do know that there is a limit as Evil Dead still holds an X for its gore factor but Friday the 13th (as well as a fair number of its sequels) was re-edited to get it down to an R. I would only guess that whatever they did probably toed the line, but never went past whatever the MPAA currently considers NC-17 gore.
I gave it a 7, it's what I thought it would be, it's a fun horror flick. I think those kinds of horror flicks sell more than dark ones, at least right now considering the bad horror movies out
Isle 10- A series I'm currently writing with my friend Adam and it will go into production soon. Think The Office meets 10 Items or Less.
George, I was actually quite shocked at the gore here. I know what you're saying about atmosphere and tone, and although this was truly an extremely bloody and graphic movie, there was something about it (maybe the over the top 3D effects) that held a sense of humor throughout.
The nudity was quite graphic though (in a good way!). She did have sex, and was buttass naked for at least 4 minutes of screen time, I'd say. You should check it out in 3D before it goes away!
George, ... You should check it out in 3D before it goes away!
*sigh* You have no idea how much I'd like to do that. Unfortunately, I can't enjoy the 3-D effects due to an accident I had back in 98. You know the legend of the guy who wasn't wearing safety glasses and poked an eye out? Yeah, that was me. I see in total 2-D now. No depth perception at all. No 3-D fun for me.
The 3D was very nice and added a great deal to the film.
It did well not to take itself particularly seriously and as such was extremely enjoyable. Far better than a lot of the recent remakes such as Halloween.
If you're going to play it serious then it's got to be good.
Anyway. it was good enough that I'd happily go and watch the sequel.
