If you disliked the first film, stop reading this review and don't even bother with the sequel. It's simply more of the same. A LOT more. I personally loved the original, so this movie, quite frankly, rocked my world.
The plot this time around revolves around some sun destroying machine hidden in Egypt and the Decipticons quest to activate it. However they need the key, which it's coordinates were hidden on the Cube. The Cube was destroyed at the end of the first film, but a few pieces remain. Sam has one piece, and after it shocks him(or something like that), the coordinates are embedded in his mind. The Decipticons resurrect Megatron, who makes it his mission to get Sam and find the key. Blah blah blah, a lot of robots fight, so on and so forth.
Not gonna spoil anymore of the plot, just know that this one does have some nice little twists. I was never bored in the two and a half hour plus run time, though I do think some of the College scenes could have been cut.
The action, as consistent with Bay, is awesome. Hate on him all you want, no one can shoot action the way this man can. Period. Bumblebee and the twin Autobots are awesome, and there's a three against one handicap match where Megatron, Starscream, and some other Decipticon, all fight Optimus, that is probably the best fight in the film. It's a wicked rush. The last fight is sweet as well.
And yes, the effects are just as great as before. I dare someone to try to say a single bad thing about the visual effects of this film. I will personally track you down and gouge your eyes out, as you do not deserve to look upon such beauty.
Shia Labeouf is just as likeable as ever and Megan Fox has actually gotten better as an actress. She's no longer JUST eye candy. John Turturro, whom I hated in the first film, redeems himself in this one. He's extremely funny.
SPOILER ALERT
There is one thing that bothered me with this film, and that's some hot girl that stalks Sam at College. She turns out to be a Decipticon... WHAT!? How the... why...!? I just decided not to think about it too much, but it just doesn't work. Surely there was a better way to move the plot forward than this. Since when can the robots mimic humans? She was more like a Terminator than a Transformer and felt very out of place. At least she was hot...
END SPOILER
Besides this problem I loved this movie. The action movie event of the summer. I'd say it's even better than the original.
It was awesome! However, let me start with the bad...
The Fallen, Megatron, Starscream, and Soundwave..ALL of the decepticons were MEGA wasted. Bumble Bee i feel was too. Optimuis, no of course not! He was great. It was amazing the detail in the graphics and when Devastator transformed....ohh man, beautiful. It was really boring in the middle where it had no action, and they focused too much on the college thing. Oh btw, why was this movie so funny? You could actually call it a comedy. I'm serious. The Twins, not wasted and funny. I could see how they could be annoying though. It's awesome in the end, it's a very good action film. Despite the fact that it has MEGA flaws, and the story at times (and by at times I mean the whole film) is confusing, until the end, it's a good summer blockbuster. That fight scene in the forest ruled!
4/5. Was it as good as the first? Yes, but not by much.
Btw, it got 60 M opening day, no wonder it was sold out....
Just don't take it too seriously, you'll be fine I guess.

Boy this movie was loud...lol, it's kinda like being on a roller coaster for 150 min, its fun while you're on it but when you get up you're all woozy, still was fun though. I think what I liked most about it was that Glenn Morshower had a major role in this one, he's my favorite "guy who you see in every movie but don't know his name" actors, I was glad to see he had a big part in this one, he was only in the first one for like the first 5 min. Also the last battle scene was truly amazing, it must have been at least an hour long if not longer, I have no idea how they were able to do that, some truly cool stuff. If I didn't have such a weak stomach for motion sickness I probably would have even liked it more. I still think Star trek and Drag me to hell are the "event" movies so far this summer, both of those for me were great films, this one was good, and I still think my ears are ringing.
Saw it last night and, DAMN!, was that entertaining or what? 2˝ hours of pretty much non-stop action! This is Michael Bay at his best - this is what he do!

Totally agree with Jordan here. The man has such a cool voice - he really sounds like an army guy.

Saw this last night on IMAX. Perfect popcorn movie. The plot is okay but completely worthless and the jokes and gags were stupid and occassionally just plain not thought through. When are Hollywood screenwriters gonna learn that marijuana doesn't make you drunk?! The black audience members behind us were also noticeably pissed off if anyone's up to snuff on the controversial nonsense talked about in the reviews. But I digress... It's all about the action.
The CGI really is way better than anything out there right now. The robots were incredibly detailed and had enough physical character to distinguish them from each other. There's also more explosions here than Armageddon and Pearl Harbor combined. The lack of anything else good in the movie just makes the action even better. Strangely, being three hours helped just as much. You could fall asleep for half an hour, wake up and get right back into the movie because not only is the plot still worthless, there's still plenty of action to be seen. You really don't have to think for a second.
So all in all, not bad. Probably the best Bay movie I've seen. I think the sci-fi/fantasy stuff suits him well. It is what it is I suppose and I've seen plenty worse. Seeing it on IMAX was pretty sweet but I doubt I'd go see it again.
Okay, first of all, as most of you should know by now, I am a Bay defender. But this time, well...I'm really disappointed in him.
I hate to be the one to ruin the excitement here, but I thought the film was awful compared to the first one, which I did enjoy and own on DVD.
First of all, the robots had no personality and we didn't even get to know some of their names (I had to look them up). The robots in the first film weren't particularly-developed either, but all of them -- Autobots and Decepticons -- had solid introductions and distinctive personalities.
The robots in Revenge of the Fallen are just cardboard cut-outs, pretty much just standing there, looking pretty. Much attention could've gone to the Arcee triplets, Jolt, or the sweet-ass corvette Sideswipe. Instead, the film only focused on those stupid twins (who did make me laugh, ocassionally, but that doesn't justify devoting a huge chunk of the film to them).
Second of all was the action -- it was so overblown and all-over-the-place that it got boring pretty quick. After the forest fight (great scene BTW), ALL the action lost its steam pretty quick. In the first movie, every action sequence, while indeed exaggerated and overblown, at least served to try and emphasize the Drama/Comedy/Suspense of what was happening. In Revenge, the action is scattered and pointless, not to mention generic. There were few memorable moments in this one besides the constructicons fusing together. The first movie had plenty of memorable scenes -- Prime transforming, Autobots descending, Megatron awakening, the battle on the highway, etc.
All the action in the sequel was boring, pointless and uninspired.
Third -- The Fallen. Wow. Was that guy a let-down or what? He didn't even transform and he's in the damn title.
Fourth -- The length: long movies only work if they have a plot to fall back on, and action sequences/good dialogue to emphasize it. This film simply wasn't good enough to warrant its running time.
I didn't hate the film, but I was heavily-disappointed. The first film had a plot that was far-fetched and simple, but rather cohesively-told throughout its running time, hence, the action scenes were more effective. The sequel is just all over the place. Its story -- simple as it was -- shattered under the weight of the overused action sequences.
As for the girl Zack mentioned -- those things have been part of the TF universe for a long time. She's called a Pretender -- basically, a robot with a soft outer shell.
3/10 for some bad-ass special effects and a decent new Decepticon (Soundwave)

I agree on the side of the Decepticons that they just show up without any intro but I guess they serve the plot and much like the clones in Star Trek they were just that... mindless drones "born" on The Fallen's little birthing station or whatever that was.
The robot girl looked a lot like Sam's girlfriend with blonde hair and at times I thought she's waaay to hot to be going for that guy, something is fishy.
They didn't disguise her all that well.
Why are they so perfect but when they transform they are all battered and beaten?
I enjoyed the film on a dumb action fan scale as I enjoy most action flicks.
The G.I. Joe trailer was crap. The new Tim Burton film is a complete rip off of other films but surprisingly looked decent. And that guinea pig anime film... wow, just wow.
This is a real good film and i could watch this over and over again (i usually only watch a film once). The plot was good if you understood it though the funny bits were sometimes unnatural. I enjoyed the twins and the (trying not to be rascist) black people including my friends liked them and didn't take the way they actored in a rascist way. On the other hand i did not like how jetfire was a old transformer and that he had never met optimus prime (In the cartoons and comics jetfire was optimus's close friend) and that he was not a grumpy type guy unlike his movie counter-part and i didn't like that but it didn't bother me. Also the movie didn't give me the feel of the first one. To sum it all up this was a legendary film.
Take away the special effects and Megan Fox, and you get...nothing.
That being said, is dazzling special effects, countless explosions and a sweltering hot Megan Fox enough to build an entertaining summer blockbuster on? Yup.
(Although I would have cut the silly Mom on marijauna brownie scene immediately...But then, if there is no discernable plot to advance, what the hell?)
It was fun.
Failure is only the opportunity to begin again more intelligently - Dove Chocolate Wrapper
The plot was way to predictable. The dialouge was campy and out of date. But, on the bright side, i could watch that Megan Fox run in slow motion all day.

The autobots are always going to win. That part is predictable yes

Plus, you could see that Optimus was gonna die a mile away. Even if you have a little knowledge of the original cartoon show, you know he sacrifices himself and ressurects in almost every episode
Well when he did die, I think we all knew he was coming back, I mean, you can't kill him off! Btw when Sam died I didn't buy that he was dead. Devastator was awesome though!

about your review Ayham the robo-girl is a pretender, they have been in the transformers universe for a long time and also about optimus not being able to be ressurected with the allspark probally because when megatron was ressurected they used spare parts from a transformer and the autobots wouldn't do that.

Here's the real question... How did Megatron kill Optimus if only a "Prime" can kill a Prime?
I went to see this last week only because it is the first big blockbuster in my memory that was released in Britain before America, normally we have to wait!
Special effects were impressive, but how many of the male audience would have asked for their money back if it wasn't for THAT first shot of Megan Fox leaning over a motorcycle?
It basically had all the problems of the first one, which made it so that I didn't really like it all that much. I can say, however, it wasn't awful, which I guess is saying something.
However, I really think that the film could have benefited from taking itself more seriously. There was a lot of really dark/harsh stuff going on and the impact would have been so much greater if the film wasn't littered with bad attempts at humor. I mean, it could have started off with some light humor but once the film got going they should have given it a rest.
True, I don't really like her either but you must admit she's hot. Did anyone think Shia was good in the film? I did. People are all like "He's such a good actor" and he is, but these are just action films. So I don't think he's tapped into everything he has yet.

Just finished watching this on Sky Anytime. Saw it was available, thought "hey, I haven't experienced intense sensory bombardment for a while", so I gave it a go.
What kills this film stone-dead is its length. About 50 minutes in I was enjoying it, thinking maybe it had been given a pretty harsh rap...then I checked and saw there was another HOUR AND A HALF to go. And then once they got to Egypt it just started to drag on.
And on.
And on.
It takes Sam what, half an hour, to do the last two miles (as he says) to get back to Optimus Prime? And then he resurrects him, and the final showdown that's been thousands of years in the offing and has taken well over two hours to build to is over in about five minutes. One missile - bang, the sun-eating-thing is blown up. Two minutes of fighting, the Fallen is dead, and Megatron runs away. Great. That was worth waiting for. At least the final battle in Avatar was an exciting climax to the movie. This just felt like it had wasted my time.
So yeah - had this been a standard 120-minute picture, I think it would actually have been pretty decent. I would have been willing to overlook the clunky, video game dialogue, the annoying camera movement Bay uses, Megan Fox's 'performance' (it's not that she's a bad actress, she just can't act. It's not her fault - it's like sticking her out on a football pitch and telling her to score a hat-trick). But it was SO LONG. Far too long. If he'd trimmed off half of the slow-motion, that would be a start. You'd probably lose 20 minutes with that alone.
By the end, it alll felt self-indulgent and slightly out of control. As if they thought, "hey, we paid to do all this stuff, we have to put it in!" No. You don't. Spare me, and get on with it. Please.
To be honest, I never really saw what was so bad about this. I mean it wasn't perfect, but considering the first one, I kind of knew what to expect, so I went in open-minded and left the theater with no disappointments.
Then again, I am easily pleased and I enjoy Megan Fox (she's one of the only things in the movie people talk about, such a goddess<3), so make of that what you will.

I enjoyed it, but like you felt that the Egypt battle scene was far too long and it was deeply dull and repetetive. Basically the same scene played over and over again for what seemed an enternity whilst the actual important action was taking place at the Pyramid with John Turtoro.
As usual, less tends to be more. Like the Phantom Nenace, when you have multiple story-lines going on at once, each of them tends to lose focus and emotional power. Better that all the story-lines tie in and end up at the same place.
Looking back i think i over did it with my review(like I almost always do), but I still can say that I did enjoy this brainless hunk of metal for what it was, a massive popcorn flick. Looking forward to part 3.
