Just watched this on dvd and was really impressed.  It's essentially a vampire movie but with a difference.  Without giving too much away, the story centres around a 12 year old boy and a female vampire of the same age.  It's a romantic story but not a all mushy, it portraits the girls plight of never growing old and also how she has to rely on others to help her.  It's a very moving story and it's definately one of the best horror films I've seen in a long time.  I'd recommend it to anyone. as long as you don't mind reading subtitles.

Currently being remade by Matt Reeves ("Cloverfield") - under the new title "Let Me In".

This seems typically pointless - but I suppose it makes a change from J-Horror remakes.

EDIT: Just read online that Hammer will be involved in the production! There's a blast from the past!

why remake what is a great film, just because people can't be arsed to read subtitles.  Personally I hope it bombs, as the original is fantastic.

'Hammer' as in 'Hammer Horror', that is a blast from the past.  Not sure that's a good thing although they did make some cool movies.  Captain Kronos is by far their best film in my opinion.

No, not pointless.  Fact is, I suspect the majority of Americans simply will not see a film with subtitles.

That is just a simple, stupid truth.  And Hollywood knows this.  And that is why you get so many "instant remakes".

They are not trying to improve -- they are trying to recreate -- and that is why so many of those films end up emotionally bankrupt, IMO.

This was a very good film -- for me, just short of great -- though I would still recommend it for those hoping to find something fresh in the vampire genre.

There is a lot of innocence in this film, which somehow makes the menace that much more menacing.

I do not think an American director will be able to capture the same flavor that makes this film special.

Hey, it's my tiny, little IMDb!

Not the same Hammer, of course, that we knew and loved - they are now owned by a Dutch company. This will be one of the first feature films to be made under the Hammer name since, bizarrely, the remake of "The Lady Vanishes" in 1979.
