I saw an english subtitled import which now I am kicking myself because apparently they released a region 1 copy with an English dub here in Canada only.
Anyway my small gripe aside after hearing some hype about this being great and all I was not disappointed but not totally impressed.
The plus sides of this movie were all likable characters, decent acting, cheesy yet funny action and Nazi Zombies. The most surprising aspect was the fact that they didn't have the stereotypical asshole characters or slutty girls or TNA.
The only downside is that it doesn't do anything new besides Nazi zombies, snow and daylight action.
Deaths are pretty much recycled and the comedy in a lot of places didn't work.
The IMDB rating is right in that it is just above average but for todays market just above average is a great film and below average is a classic so they are on the right track, I guess.
I enjoyed this film, I agree it wasn't original in any ways but entertaining enough with some pretty funny moments. The making of is worth a watch, just to show how low budget films are always a struggle to make.
Check out my scripts...if you want to, no pressure.
I don't think this has been released on Region 1 yet as I can't, for the life of me, find a copy, even from Canada. It's driving me crazy. Anyway, looks like a lot of fun, despite mediocre reviews. I never expected this to transcend the Nazi zombie novelty but that novelty might just be enough.
Amazon.ca has the regular edition and the blu ray both with English dubs and if you live here you can get a steelbook edition of the movie.
This movie actually didn't look low budget so I give them kudos for that. I thought it was visually better than most American films (Excluding major studio films)
Thanks dude. I think I'm gonna hold out for the US release (February ). Either that or wait for the price to go down in Canada. I would be willing to shovel out a few extra dollars to get this one early but frankly, the current lowest price is more than I'd be willing to pay for a DVD in the US. That plus international shipping... no.
Seriously looks like a quality flick though. Probably the first zombie movie in a long time that tries to bring them back to the freaks. As much as I liked Zombieland, it seemed to cement the fact that zombies are now pop culture icons. Even, dare I say, cute.
The steelbook in our retail stores is actually cheaper by 7 bucks. The American Amazon gouges me on shipping so I stopped ordering yet the UK Amazon is still cheaper than both... go figure.
I did enjoy this movie even if I come off as the opposite. When I bashed Dragonballs for being utter trash with pretty visuals I meant every word of it.
This movie may actually benefit from the english dub because you miss a lot of the comedy when reading. Next time I hit up an HMV I'm going to purchase the steelbook so i can watch this with the English dub.
A Bittersweet Life is a korean film I imported that still has no proper english version. I thought after the star became a star in America (G.I. Joe's Stormshadow) they would put it out with a dub or at least region 1.
Finally had a chance to pick up and watch the English version of this film. Kudos on following the subtitles almost perfectly but a little problem is all the male and female voices sound the same.
It is a decent indy film that is not very funny (It picks up in the third act) or scary but still somehow works as a fun watch.
The special features are of decent length and a making of with English subtitles and often times the people on set speak English. A decent look at how they make films.
Finally saw this. I suppose it's exactly what one would expect. A 100% gore flick with a cool gimmick as well as tired cliches, cheap jump scares and shortcomings in plot, character and basically every element that isn't related to the blood and guts. There was one funny joke about zombie Nazis not recruiting Jewish undead and I appreciated the fact that the token sex scene featured the movie nerd of the group. I guess it was sorta lackluster but it does have its moments. I also felt a really genuine love for old school horror here. It never felt like the director was trying to parody the genre or fuck with the audience, just make something fun and simple to pay homage to the films he loves. Nothing more. It is what it is, I suppose.
