new york, i love you has had a very limited release in canada, so i was really happy to see it playing at my theater! new york, i love you is a series of somewhat intertwined love stories following the french film paris, j'taime! i had seen paris, j'taime awhile ago and really liked the idea of a new york adaptation, it has a long list of notable celebrities so it was a surprise it wasn't more mainstream but it's certainly not for everyone. i'm happy they didn't make this movie in a typical 'hollywood-esque' style romcom, they definitely made it in a similar fashion to paris j'taime. the stories are pretty short and there are definitely some i think that could of been expanded on. it's hard to say in the end whether i really liked this movie or not because there were some shorts that i thought were clever and i really liked and others that i felt really out of place but i think the good outweighs the bad in this movie. they have a lot of comedy surrounding the mishaps of living in the city, which i found very relatable and funny but i feel like there is so much more potential in new york that i think they didn't get into! i'm not too sure which directors directed which shorts but there were some scenes that had some amazing compositions that i really want to look into! overall, i liked this movie but it could of been a lot better, there were some great stories but there were some disappointing ones that went no where aswell that left a lot of questions unanswered. i like the idea of continuing this "city, i love you" stories but i think that they need to make it relate more to the city, i felt like these could of happened in any city! regardless, i'd love to see a montreal, i love you in the future, there's so much craziness in this city, i think it could be fun!
