MINOR SPOILERS

Those Spaniards really know how to make a good horror movie, which started with [REC]. America then came along and remade it, producing a pile of shit and throwing it in our faces with high-budget special effects and CGI. Hopefully they won't get the rights to remake this great sequel (that's right, a sequel. That's great. Surprising?)

This movie basically starts from where the first left off: the reporter getting dragged off, followed by the camera cutting to black and showing the title: [REC]. The rock music comes in, and a number "2" fades in next to the title as the rock music continues to play. Then it cuts to inside a SWAT vehicle, and the rock music is actually what they're listening to on the way to the quarantine zone.

From there, the SWAT team goes inside with a doctor, looking for the blood of the original infected in order to create an antidote and stop this thing, while recording and documenting everything with their helmet cameras. But of course, they screw up. Somehow. And soon everyone begins to die, or become infected, or whatever.

I liked this for the most part because you're able to recognize a lot of the characters from the first film. It's scary to finally see them as an infected. This movie also gave that claustrophobic feel to it, with the SWAT soldiers crawling into small spaces, the small hallways, Hell, the narrow stairway is the biggest location in this movie and it's scary since there's only one direction you could go: either up or down.

This movie has definitely made me scream. And it's hard for me to get scared in a horror movie because horror movies just aren't scary to me anymore. But both [REC] and this movie have been able to get a yelp and scream out of me, and I applaud them very much for doing so. I was afraid to go downstairs last night because of this movie since it was so dark in my house. This movie really frightened me, just as the first did.

They did bring in some new and interesting ideas into this film, and actually gave it some more depth into the plot rather than just leaving us wondering what the Hell is still going on. It was kind of ridiculous at first because it was a turn so unexpected that it could have almost passed as a joke, but after a while, it was kind of interesting and I liked it. The ending was very different as well, and, once again, I was not expecting it. There was even a twist that I didn't see coming, which definitely left the movie ending with an opening for the third movie, which I hope they come to making, because I think it'd be great to see how they produce the final product.

I also liked how there was more than one story in this film. It focuses on two different groups of people this time: the SWAT team, and a few teenagers who sneak into the apartment complex. I wish they had focused on the teenagers a bit more, though, because they came in, and things were getting exciting, and then the teens just disappeared and you never see them again. So hopefully they come back in the third. That'd be neat.

The last thing that I liked was that the infected were scarier in this film. They're stronger, more powerful, crazier, and they pretty much can't be stopped anymore. These SWAT team members fill them up with dozens of bullets and they still keep coming. It's frightening as well because it seems as though there's more infected now than there was before.

The only real disappointments I had with this film was:

1) They didn't show the infected as much as the first. Most of it was just searching through the building trying to "fulfill" the SWAT team's mission. The infected didn't really show up until about halfway through. And when they did show up, they were frightening at first, but soon you just saw too much of them and they started to not get as scary.

2) This movie wasn't as frightening as the first. The suspense was almost equal to that of the first, but still, it fell just a bit short. When things popped out, it wasn't that scary (only except one part, which made me scream), but maybe that's also because I am expecting it and it kind of ruins the experience for that. The suspense, as I said, fell a bit short, because there weren't parts where the characters were running up the stairs only to reach the very top and searching for the right key to open the locked door as the infected are closing in on them. Though, there was one part where a SWAT member was surrounded by infected, which was one of the more frightening scenes in this movie.

I actually think that might be the only disappointments I have for this movie. It's a great flick, something fun and scary to watch. It definitely made me afraid of the dark, especially since "the dark" plays a big theme towards the very end of the movie (which you'll find out if you watch this).

You can watch the movie here: http://xtshare.com/toshare.php?Id=27978 Hopefully the video will load faster than it did for mine. It took forever for mine, and I have high-speed connection, but I think it just might be because of the movie. For the most part, it played pretty smoothly. It did stop a few times to load, but it didn't really disrupt my viewing for it. Make sure you've watched the first one to understand really what's going on (and to know what to expect ), or, I guess you could have also watched Quarantine before this, since it's a shot-for-shot remake of [REC]. But oh well, enjoy!

Hey, what a novel idea...make a sequel that starts right after the original ends, and turn it into a great flick that stands on its own legs.

I really enjoyed [REC] 2.  It's very well done in all regards.  Attention to detail is fantastic.  Action, suspense, horror, acting, FX, tone...all just great.

SPOILERS     SPOILERS     SPOILERS     SPOILERS     SPOILERS

I think viewers will either love or hate how this sequel changes things up with what we "thought" we had in the original.  I personally loved it.

In the original, we have what appears to be an outbreak of a rabies-like contagion that turns its victims into ravenous, aggressive zombies.

In the sequel, we find out it's a Hell of alot more than that that's going on, and I think it was handled very well, and actually, even made sense.

Another really cool and well done aspect here is how the writer/directors handled a dual story, or perspective.  We start with 4 SWAT-like cops, leading doctor/priest into the infected apartment. After a bunch of shit goes down, they see another fire fighter with some teens and an older guy on the stairs below, and we basically go to black...

...and start up with what's really a Flashback of how the other group got into the apartment.  The cool thing is that we don't really realize this at first, which adds to the feeling of confusion, which runs rampant here.

If I saw this movie 2 or 3 times, I can tell there are numerous things that don't really make sense, but who cares?  This isn't the kind of movie you'll be watching 2 or 3 times.  It's a movie that works based on its immediate impact, and it hits fucking hard and fast and keeps up the non relenting horror and fast paced action.

MAJOR SPOILERS     MAJOR SPOILERS     MAJOR SPOILERS

The ending is FUCKING AWESOME!!!  I definitely didn't see it coming and it's quite shocking...and cool.

There are also some rather hokey things going on in the final scenes, but overall, it's more than OK.

The special features are awesome as well. Really in depth film making stuff on 3 big scenes.  I am so impressed with the professionalism of all involved here.  The level of detail and perfection is unrivaled in anythign I've seen.

Great movie!!!  Check it out.

PS  I want [REC] 3!!!!!!!
