Didn't see a thread on this, surprisingly, so here we go...

I actually wanted to see this when it came out and then forgot about it until I got Netflix (I'm checking out a ton of movies this way, BTW).

WOW, am I ever surprised with how terrible this is.  Just awful in every way.  The acting is atrocious.  The plot and story almost non existent.  Zero nudity.  Very little actual onscreen gore. Poor FX.  An worst of all, is the screenplay by Diablo Cody, who also was a Producer, most likely based on her instant success from Juno.  The lines these "actors" spew out are at first laughable, but as they stumble on, downright irritating and cringe worthy.

I almost turned it off about midway through, but I rarely, if ever actually do that, so I continued.  The finale was pathetic, again, comical actually, but not in a funny way...more like a really sad way.

Only positive I can throw out is the actual ending, as the credits are rolling.  Cool stuff there for sure, but no way does a few minutes as the credits roll make up for an hour and a half of pure garbage.

When I read all the negatives when this first came out, I thought it was just a bunch of shithead critics being shitheads, trying to shit on Diablo Cody and Megan Fox.  No...that wasn't the case at all.  They were dead on...this is bad...seriously crap bad, and most likely one of the worst wide screen releases I can remember.

Unreal!

You're a better man than I...I walked out halfway through.  Terrible film that didn't know what it wanted to be.  The only good part was that outrageous split-focus shot in the bar.  Ooh and that massive Steadicam into whatshisjock standing in the middle of the field.

Wow!  You actually walked out of the theater?  Did you get a refund?

I do remember the long Steadicam shot in the field.  It came off kind of comical to me for some reason.  I was expecting it to lead to something important or interesting, but it didn't.

You're definitely right about the movie not having a clue what it wanted to be.  Diablo Cody thinks she's the queen of hipster dialogue, but I'd say she's more like the fucking jester.

While I watched this movie, I thought to myself: Would this movie have been made if it wasn't for Diablo Cody?

I'd say no. In fact, I've read better scripts on this site. Yeah, Cody has a knack for some interesting dialogue - and it worked for Juno - but here it fell flat. The story, as mentioned above, was non-existent and very bland.

I was very disappointed. Obviously Juno got Diablo Cody's name on the map, but she's gonna have to offer something more with her next project or her work will quickly become stale.

Zack...WTF?  Are you kidding?  You liked this?

What did you like about it?  Seriously?

Are there any movies you haven't like?  Seriously?  It seems like you literally do love every single movie you see...

I threw up in my popcorn and handed it to the guy next to me who was loving the movie. I don't think he noticed. To him, they were both great.

I rented this 'gem' and it took me 4 separate sittings over a course of a week to make it through the entire thing. I too had high hopes that the critics were wrong and this may be a cult classic that bombed in theaters, but holy shit...this was awful.

It seems like Diablo Cody had success with Juno and studio's asked "what else you got", then she found the only other thing she had completed and tried to pass it off as the second coming of Juno. It shows her talent as a producer to actually get this made, but if she was smart she would have completely re-worked this.  She has talent, but almost every scene in this bombed.
I could watch Megan Fox do just about anything, from listening to her talk about politics and filling out your census report to the filthiest things one could imagine, but this one was too tough to stomach.

Well... I hate spoof movies... and Shaun of the Dead. God I hate that fucking movie. Also, I didn't really care for the Sherlock Holmes movie.

As for this movie, I thought it was a fun, original horror flick that didn't take itself to seriously. Was it amazing? Hell no. But it was pretty decent.

Oh... I also dislike Predator 2. Bleh.

Of course she's the queen of hipster dialogue. It all works exactly how it's supposed to. Hipster dialogue is cute/clever at first then gets annoying then ends up completely unbearable. I think it works in small doses or if it's exceptionally good but how often is that the case?

I haven't seen the movie but I read an extensive article about it in the Washington Post featuring extensive quotes from both Diablo Cody and Karyn Kusama. It seems like they wanted to make a comment on gender roles in horror movies but intentionally disguised it to make it seem like something more generic. Seems to be a conflict of interests going on here.

Zack, I hate spoof movies as well.  I also hated Shaun of the Dead.  Still waiting for Sherlock Holmes to hit Netflix.

BUT, I actually really like Predator 2.  Sure, it had it's flaws, but I really enjoyed it when I saw it in the theater when it first came out and actually own the Special Edition DVD, and watch it from time to time.  I know alot of people dislike it.

Oh well, different strokes.  Later!

James, I read a similar article on Jennifer's Body.  Seems the "girls" thought they were being super clever and making a "horror" movie that girls would dig, because it's written from a girl's perspective, etc, blah, blah, blah.  BULLSHIT!  They failed miserably and created a movie everyone hated.
