Just watched Horsemen, a 2009 DTV with Dennis Quaid and a number of other recognizable actors.  Written by Dave Callaham (Doom and soon to be released Expendables), and directed by a guy well known for music videos.

I love movies!  I love everything about movies,  including all the details on the shoot/production...everything. What I found on IMDB was very interesting to say the least.  This thing had a $20 Million budget, had a shitload of changes throughout filming, inclduing reshoots a full year later that caused them to have to completely recast a semi major role, and force 1 key player to have to wear a wig and fake mustache in some of those reshoots that was painfully obvious.

WTF?  As I always say, I just don't get it...I really don't.

It's not a bad movie at all, actually. I bet alot of the problems were caused by producers/executives tinkering with the script, etc.  It could have been so much better, though.

Quaid is pretty good in it, actually.  IMO, all the actors did a good job with what they had to work with.  The story is rather interesting and intriguing, but it just doesn't quite work, and when you think about it later, things just don't quite add up, in terms of the how's and why's.

Biggest problem is that it's slow, dull, and not very visual an experience. About 30 minutes in, it takes a sharp turn and appears to be heading in the right direction, but then, it turns again (a few times) and the end result is underwhelming.  The payoff is weak, unbelievable, and downright impossible, which left me wondering what it must have looked like when it originally was green-lighted.

It's not a terrible way to spend an hour and a half though, and comes across as a very professional job with lots of thought and time put into it.

I obviously haven't said a word about what it's about, and IMO, it makes it a better viewing experience, not knowing what you're really in for.  It is a police thriller/horror hybrid that works on some levels, but fails in others.  There is torture, violence, and even mystery that should keep most guessing throughout the entire movie.

Check it out and you may be surprised.  Can't say I really liked it, but I'm glad I did see it.

I was just combining through old threads. Saw this.

The problems in production showed. I found the film slow, confusing and outright preposterous.
Consider : If the mastermind of the crimes and his ‘horsemen’ didn’t act out on the crimes in rapid motion, then the primary reason for the crimes taking place, (at least as far as the leader of the ‘Horsemen’ is concerned) should have never have taken place.

Right?
