Oh my god, did the studio go all out with this film or what? It's the goriest movie I've ever seen(yes, gorier than Dead Alive so drop it), it has more nudity than a girls gone wild video(actually joe Francis is trying to sue the makers of the film, haha), and is far and away the funniest movie of the year. Make no mistake about it, this is a comedy.
Director Alex Aja fully redeems himself after the sub-par Mirrors. It really seemed like he enjoyed himself while making this film, and it shows.
The CG is actually much better than I thought it'd be. It's no Avatar, but it more than gets the job done. And the gore effects are just fucking nuts. People will be throwing up in the theaters. SPOILERS- There's a bit with a floating penis that's every bit at funny as it is disgusting. It had me laughing and gagging at the same time!
The acting is surprisingly good. It's very campy, but it fits the mood. Christopher Lloyd is the man! And Jerry O'connell deserves some awards for his dedication to his character. Man is he ate up!(no pun intended)
One thing that did rub me the wrong way was when (not HOW) they endied it. It just felt kinda abrupt. They're obviously hoping to do a sequel and I for one can't wait. Great show!
MORE SPOILERS- Jerry O'connell's final words will be remembered for ever. "Wet t-shirts!... Wet t-shirts!" hahahaha. Classic

F@%k yeah! This is EXACTLY what I wanna hear about this film! Going to see this on saturday and I can't wait! Only, is it suitable to take your girlfriend?! How do you sell the idea of going to see film full of gore and jiggling 3D boobies?!
Yeah, it's cool to bring your girlfriend. As long as she has a strong stomache and understands that it is a comedy.

Still, this is going to be a hard sell - my girlfriend HATES Kelly Brooke (can't imagine why!), and she DETESTS Eli Roth! However, having watched the ten-minute comic con footage, she'll LOVE what happens to him, so that will be the main tool in my pitch!
Just got back. Not bad, actually. More or less what I expected but better than the original. The T&A was borderline pornographic and gore more or less matched its sexual counterpart. It was hard to tell what was going on in the water during the kill scenes at times but the gore effects really looked like the work of real piranha.
Naturally, there were gags/lines that fell flat and characters made some questionable decisions at times but nothing really irked me. Two things that actually surprised me were the lack of cheap jump scares (there were about 2-3) and the fact that the lead characters weren't terrible. I mean they weren't great but they weren't bad either. I appreciated the fact that they didn't try to pass off douchebags as sympathetic.
The only real problem I had wasn't with the movie itself but the 3D. It looked like shit. Naturally Avatar is an exception but I'd venture to say the majority of these 3D flicks are just weak. Nothing really pops out of the screen and you lose track of the changes in depth after a while. That or they just give you a headache. Hollywood needs to either dish out some more cash to get the effects up to snuff or ditch the gimmick entirely (after Jackass 3D, of course). It really looks like garbage half the time and does nothing for the movies themselves.
I didn't think Dreyfuss's cameo was all that great either. It wasn't bad but it certainly didn't deserve all the hype or Dreyfuss's name attached to the opening credits. I think his original character and the film it comes from are better than the two minute wink they got in the end. I hope his paycheck was a big'un because it just didn't seem worth it after 36 years. Christopher Lloyd's cameo, on the other hand, was brilliant. That dude's just always on point. Eli Roth was surprisingly funny as well.
Saw this yesterday, it was exactly as I hoped it would be - just trashy good fun! £9.50 is what I paid to see this film! That's like 15 of your US Dollars! Then an extra £1.50 for the 3D glasses! Luckily, I had my own.
Anyway, the film was pretty good, except for the 3D which took me out of it. But other than that, it was all good. Lots of boobies, lots of Kelly Brook's boobies, and LOTS of gore! What more could you want?! Of course, my girlfriend didn't enjoy it as much as I did, but hey! Not much of a story to speak of and a very abrupt ending hints at an obvious sequel.
Overall, I enjoyed this film - laughs in all the right places (few actual scares though), and I would recommend any gore hound or general horror fan to go see it.
This was a good way to spend the afternoon. I felt it took a while to get going, but there were plenty of boobs and asses to keep my attention until it kicked off. When the massacre started, it was really amazing. I refused to watch the 9 minute clip online before as I wanted everything to be a surprise and I'm glad I didn't give in and watch it.
I've not been a fan of these 3D movies so far, most of them have been converted to 3D after filming and it shows. This one was slightly better, much better than the so-called 3D in The Last Airbender anyway.
Also, the Kelly Brook underwater naked scene with a porn star was brilliant! And all in 3D!
I'm sitting in the theater right now waitin to watch Vampires Suck, just after seeing Piranha 3D, and I have to say that after telling everyone that the movie was going to be horrible, but a lot of fun, I was wrong. This movie was really good! Much, much, MUCH better than I expected. And I was hesitant to even pay for the 3D version, but I didn't have the choice since there wasn't a 2D option, but still, this was quite an amazing piece of work! Truly disgusting by all means, with people getting chopped in half, chewed to death, torn to pieces.
I also want to compliment the deaths in this film as they weren't repetetive in any way with just piranhas eating people. You had deaths dealing with snapping cables, hair getting caught in propellors, the works. The floating breast implants and dick were a great touch, and everything about this movie was perfect for a fun time in the theater. The acting was much greater than I thought, and the performances from everyone were great. Don't listen to Phil about Richard Dreyfuss' career since he was only in it for 5 minutes, and didn't really add to the story.
I do have to agree with Zack though. The ending did fall short, and I even stayed after the credits to see if there would be at least SOME closure, but all I got was a sinking skull. Also, there were clips in the commercials that weren't in the movie (which always disappoints me), such as the girl's hand grabbing the pier and digging her nails into the wood as she's dragged into the water, or the part where one of the supporting characters screams "There's something in the water!!!"
This movie was great. I had a blast with it, and definitely do not go see this movie if you're expecting something serious. You should tell that this is a horror comedy just from the commercials. This is a good movie and if you like blood, boobs, porn, and fun, see this movie (highly recommended with friends. I saw it by myself, still had fun, but I bet I could have had a lot more fun with friends).
