Unearthed (2004)

This movie is bad.  It's not so bad that it's good.  It kind of holds your attention as if you were watching a natural disaster happening right in front of you.  The kind of attention a deer has for your headlights.

The plot sounds great.  Sorry but I cheated and copied this from IMDB

When a downtown Tampa high rise project results in the discovery of ancient Indian artifacts, a brilliant but idealistic young archaeologist, Mallory Page, steps in to preserve the native Tequesta Indian history of site. On the eve of her team's eviction from the dig by the powerful politics of local progress, a discovery awaits - a discovery so profound that a bloody conflict spanning centuries and light years is about to spill into the backstreets and alleys of an unsuspecting city, and Mallory Page is caught in the middle. But a tough, seasoned Tampa detective, Victor Tonelli, knows the series of brutal slayings erupting from the city's waterfront district is anything but normal, and he's determined to bring the killers to justice and to unravel the mystery that has been Unearthed.

But once you get in the movie it's sort of like you fell down a mutated rabbit hole.  There's tons of gore often at the most inexplicable times.  The story turns out to be much more bizarre once it gets going and the screenwriter/director makes no bones about hopping all over the place.  It's not enough that he has confused you, he must totally confuse you.

As a saving grace in some of the scenes he does surreal quite well.  I'm not sure it was always intentional though.

I don't in any way recommend this film.  But if you're looking for something strange to watch with bad acting, directing, story line, and lots of gore - then you can actually watch this full movie on You Tube.

This is the full movie.

The channel that hosts it - GravitasVOD - seems to be a distribution point for a number of Z+ movies.  I'll be watching more but I need at least a month to recover from this one.

Yep, this was terrible.  I couldn't get more than about 10 minutes into it before I said, Fuck it.

Sets and acting were just piss poor and looks like a zero budget, filmed with a home camera.

It sounds like a good flick, but as Cornie said, it's not.  Don't even waste a few minutes on this turd.

Seems four years later the story still sucks even when relocated to New Mexico.

Another writer/director gig.

This one sucked, too.
Decent enough camera work and one really cool explosion effect flipping back the protagonist, but OMG the script was full of ridiculous exposition, sub-plots with no purpose and characters with no point. (I love reading critiques where reviewers complain about background characters not being fully developed. Dumba$$es. If it mattered... )
I fast-forwarded through a lot of it, especially when they just sat around and blabbed.
When lives are at stake I wanna see more running and less discussing.

I officially do not care for slow burn story BS.
I am impatient with my entertainment.
I want my first slurp of Coke to taste like the last. The same for my double cheeze burgers.
I don't want my Coke to begin watered down, gradually increasing to 100% Coke.
I don't want to eat a rice cake that magically turns into a double cheeze burger for the last few bites.
As such, I did not care for that approach the writer/director used.

With the Oct OWC coming up in a couple weekends I thought some of these =>After Dark Horror Fest log lines might jostle some eye-deers.

Anyone consider having a 7WC gun for a crack at a Afterdark quality script?
