My review's somewhat biased considering I have a weakness for teen movies like no other and this was a great throwback to the 80's John Hughes style of movie that never leaves my dvd player. It's been awhile since a good mainstream teen movie has come out, I really don't think there has been since Mean Girls or The Girl Next Door. I found that this movie had a good mixture of originality but also payed it's respects to the movies that defined the genre. Emma Stone really makes this one what it is, actually the whole cast is spot on, especially Stanley Tucci and Patricia Clarkson playing Emma Stone's parents. Everyone's comedic timing is brilliant and the dialogue's definitely above par for this type of movie. While this isn't the greatest movie of the year, it's that type of movie that has such great replay value and those are movies I love, I feel like I could watch this over and over again. I read the first draft of the script before seeing it and it was originally pretty foul-mouthed, I think this movie could of benefited even more from taking the R rating route but I understand the need to appeal to the masses. I think my only complaint here would be the ending, it's kind of abrupt but not so much that I just thought it could have been more original, they pay major homage to Say Anything, when I really think it could have had it's own defining ending. But overall, this was a really good teen comedy, I suggest it to anyone looking for a breezy entertaining movie and some good laughs.
