I have no shame in saying I was excited for this movie. The trailer looked horrible but I knew it would be fun and I had a great time watching this movie. This is definitely so bad it's good. You can't take it seriously for a moment and my whole theater had a good time. Everyone in the movie knows what it is and has a good time with it. This falls into the same vein as Machete, and I actually think I enjoyed this one more. The 3D was also good, one that I would say I'm actually happy was in 3D (and that's never usually the case with me). There's some great moments in this one, it's a shame it's bombing so hard. I'm interested to see what others thought of this one, I had a great time.

Some of the most fun you're likely to have at the theatre this year.  The audience was gasping with shocked laughter from start to finish and the movie was just a delight.  Great soundtrack, great cars, an ass-kicking babe and Nicolas Cage...just about everything one could ask for.  The failure of this movie is a mystery to everyone who's seen it and I think it's safe to say that word of mouth will be kind to it.  A great treat for anyone who remembers how much better action movies used to be.

I was truly bummed at how poorly Drive Angry performed at the boxoffice.
So, I wanted to show my solidarity and went to see this one on the 3D screen.
Maybe they shouldn't have spent $50 million on a movie with a narrow target audience.
However, muscle car exploitation pictures will always have a place in my heart.

Drive Angry has its inspired moments, but it doesn't go completely for broke.
Surprisingly, the film's most off the hook asset is underutilized, Nicolas Cage.
Milton is a rather sedate brooding character until the third act. Bad call.
William Fichtner is consistently more unhinged than Cage throughout the film.

I am hopeful that Patrick Lussier will get another chance to release a film.
I saw similar sparks of promise in My Bloody Valentine 3D.
He's currently attached to the Hellraiser reboot, so we'll see.
Drive Angry is as its best when it throws action convention to the wind.
Ridiculous excess of nudity and violence run amok and it works two thirds of the time.

How would you say it compares to Shoot 'Em Up?

(I must admit, I was a little irked to see that they stole the gun fight during a sex scene bit from SEP.)

Wait, people actually like Nick Cage? He's made 1 decent movie out of his last ten, his hairline is like a roller coaster, and he releases 3 movies a year, where he always plays the same character, but poorly. I also hate this plot for this movie. Boring and unoriginal. On a positive note, I liked the chick and the cars and the 3D was pretty good as well

WOW...WTF?  I'm downright appalled that all these reviews are on the positive side.  Shocked, actually.

This is not a good movie.  In fact, it's a shitty movie.  It's ridiculous.  It's over the top stupid and goofy.  And to make matters worse, it gets much worse as it goes on, leading to one of the lamest finales I can remember.

Oh, my head hurts...where to begin?

I like Nic Cage.  He usually brings alot to every role he plays, although he didn't here.  He was really dull and "lifeless".  I like Amber Heard also.  She's hot and IMO, is a pretty decent actress as well.  I like William Fichtner and have always thought he was an under rated actor, just waiting for a breakout role and performance.  I love violence.  I love excessive nudity.  I like ballsy scripts.

I didn't like any of it here, however.

The story itself is just ridiculous and you have to blame Todd Farmer for the silly concept, which is really just an excuse for all the rest of the silliness that goes on and on again and again.

I have to wonder how seriously this is meant to be taken, cause I laughed out loud many times, just not when I was supposed to.  Everything involving the cult was just plain old cheesy/goofy/foolish nonsense.

The scene in the church sure had some howlers going on.  First of all, the "look" of the cult members was funny in its own right.  They all had these stupid "evil" looks on their faces, but it was more comical than scary.  Same thing with their lines of dialogue, almost cartoonish in a bad way.  And how about that ridiculous wig the one dude's wearing?  When I first glimpsed him, I literally started howling and wondered why they'd let that brief glimpse slip by.  then, to my amazement, when The Accountant shows up, there he is, still alive and onscreen for several minutes, wearing the most obvious wig I've ever seen, other than in a comedy sketch.

The scenes on the RV were also just hysterically poor and cartoonish.  The lines of the cult members are just oh so evil again.  Just a hoot.

Then we get some shenanigans of the "old friend" in David Morse.  Just terrible, again, and so cliche.

And who can forget the finale?  All the cultists dancing around, some nude, fires burning...c'mon...looked like the set of a rock video from the early 80's.  There's some good violence to be seen here, but it all plays out just like you know it will, with certain characters showing up at just the right second, and then some of the cheesiest, most out of place FX work you never want to see, followed by a crapfest, cliche obvious conclusion for Heard's character, and then an almost comical final moment with Cage and Fichtner in which, it actually does seem to change in tone to complete comedy.

HORRIBLE!!!!!

$50 Million budget, Horrendous $11 Million NABO, including 3D surcharges, and a whopping WWBO of $29 million.  Pathetic!!!

What a waste of money and talent.

personally, i thought this movie wasnt over the top enough. i love movies that are incredibly stupid, violent, and goofy. however they must push the envelope and they HAVE to be self aware. although this film kinda knew what it was, it didnt bring anything new to the table. therefore it came across a lukewarm, grindhouse flick wanna be. i wasnt shocked by this movie. i didnt laugh at the gratuitous violence (which really wasnt all that intense). and i certainly wasnt enjoying myself while watching it (except when amber heard was on screen). super hot chick aside, this movie was funny in the wrong places. nic cage seemed really awkward too. but he's always been hit or miss for me.

I just rented this on DVD.

I could not torture myself anymore after 45 minutes and gave up. What's tragic is that I usually like Nicolas Cage, if he's over the top or subdued. I have liked some of Bill Burke's past roles, even his current status as the Twilight Dad. I was starting to get into William Fichtner's (sp) Agent Of Death "Accountant" character a slight bit. I tried and I failed. I generally dislike Lussier as a director but I thought the Valentine remake (along with scribe Todd Farmer, who again plays a womanizing redneck who gets killed off) had some nice scares.

Like Jeff, it stuns me that quite a few folks liked this piece of garbage. All the time I hear "you can learn a lot about writing from a bad movie' and lo, here's one such film and we say how great it is. Hokey doke.

Let me ask you: would you write a character like the one played by Amber Heard (a great looking gal but a terrible actress) ? What is the extent of her dialog?

More I watched, more I HATED this mo...this thing before my eyes.
Some yahoo actually made this movie. Put money into it. Produced and distributed.Bombing at the box office? Not bad enough. Getting this life-drainer alone MADE was far, far worse The real shocker (and you heard this from me before) is that people got paid to make it.

I couldn't make it to the end. Did I miss anything? From the sound of it, I saved my brain from further rot.
