Here we have a little French horror film that really impressed me.  It is subtitled, so you don't need to worry about heinous dubbing.

Some, maybe most will call it cliche.  Some will say it downright sucks, but I'll tell you, there's alot going on here and for me, it totally worked in what it attempted.

This is another hybrid type movie, employing aspects and tone of movies like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Hostel, numerous other like concepts, zombie movies of any name, and Evil Dead, believe it or not.  Each time you think you know where it's gong, it shifts tone and for me, that's what sets it apart, a I really didn't have a clue where we'd go and end up.

For a low budget production, it actually looks quite good.  Acting is good where it's supposed to be, and then over the top cheesy/ridiculous where it wants to be.  FX are a highlight and for me, really were well done.

There's a black humor running underneath throughout and I usually don't like this, but here, it worked pretty well for me.

In terms of the story and concept, it appears like there's alot more to it, then came through on film.  What I'm saying is that the reasoning for what's going on and the backstory just didn't transfer to film, but you know what?  Who fucking cares?  For what it is, it works.

There's lots of tension, scares, terror, horror, and some great violence.  The story is well hidden and it will definitely keep you guessing, eve if you think it's a simple 1 trick pony.

If you like brutal horror and you don't have a problem with a subtitled French film, I highly recommend checking this out.  I gave it 4 stars, and if I could have given it 4 1/2,  I would have.

I thought this was decent but it pales in comparison to most of its French contemporaries and while it is well done and its cliches don't particularly detract from the viewing experience, I probably forgot about it within a few days. Nothing memorable and it really just whizzes by. Before you know it, it's already over.

I suppose it does deliver the standard package of what one is to expect from French horror. It's grim, bloody and the characters are as stereotypically un-bubbly as any American Francophobe could hope for. Pissed off and apt not to take shit from anyone. Look no further than the heroine deliberately drinking from a cup of coffee some scuzzy biker just loogie'd in and subsequently telling him to fuck off.

Still, if you want the deluxe package, you'll need to look elsewhere.

After High Tension and Martyrs, this one felt trite.
But I do agree the production values were ace.
And I like the character color of the locals, like the old cop.
There's flashes of spirit and chemistry from the cast.
But it never elevated itself above the conventions of the genre.
I do remember a lot of spitting in this one for some reason. LOL.
It just hit them like a checklist. Damn those filthy French psychopaths.

It's great to see others watching movies of all kinds. There is so much to learn from seeing flicks like this.

I am a little surprised to hear your lukewarm feelings, however.  IMO, this is the kind of film that peeps will either really like, really dislike, or just not have a shard of interest in.

For some reason, this thing has really stuck with me and I remember scenes very vividly, including characters, even - both good and bad.  I really thought the creatures were well done, and some of the gore effects were very impressive.

Anyways, thanks for chiming in.  I wish more peeps had interest in discussing little movies like this, as I honestly believe there is so much to be learned by watching movies.
