I actually really, really enjoyed this film. I think it's a better and more entertaining movie than any of the individual movies that spawned it (yes, including Iron Man, I know people like that a lot).

But I have to say that having been the craziest, most obsessive Joss Whedon fan since Buffy started right back in '97, I know he can do much, much more than what was in this film. I've always thought that if someone would just give him enough money and enough creative latitude, it would only be a matter of time until he made the greatest thing anyone's ever seen and blows the whole world away.

Obviously this movie did very, very well at the box office. I say kudos to Marvel for finally allowing Whedon to just go for it. I think it was Whedon himself that watered down his own vision ever so slightly. Maybe he felt the fan pressure too much and played it safe in some areas. But now since this one has proven so successful, I'm hoping it'll boost his confidence and he'll be willing to take a greater chance and do something more unusual and a little less standard. God he's got the writing chops to pull it off and Marvel's obviously confident in him having drafted him to work on a whole bunch of their upcoming movies.

The Avengers 2 will be a very cool movie, I'm sure. But I want Whedon! I want crazy, unpredictable, maudlin, weirdly sexual, metaphorical Whedon to go to town on it. I want Buffy season three Whedon, not 'I'm worried about pissing off the fans' Whedon.

I can't live the buttoned-down life like you. I want it all. The dizzying highs, the terrifying lows, the creamy middles. Sure, I may offend some of the blue bloods with my cocky stride and musky odors. Oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called "city fathers," who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards and talk about what's to be done with this Homer Simpson?
