Picture yourself on a small island off the coast of Ireland, idyllic place, beautiful shoreline, and a small fishing town feel. Then picture that some slimy tentacled sea creature with a thirst for blood lands off the coast and starts feeding off the townspeople. And you've got this movie.
It's sort of a cross between Hot Fuzz and Tremors with some definite nods to Gremlins as well. If you haven't guessed it's a black comedy. The twist to this movie is absolutely hysterical. In order to fight the alien sea creatures, the townspeople must stay stinkin' drunk.
While the movie definitely does deliver on the premise and the sea creatures are a formidable, scary but sometimes sort of cute force to deal with, I don't think it's quite funny enough to reach Hot Fuzz status or corny enough to reach Tremors status.
It might be if I were Irish, I might think differently. I might catch some cultural archetypes that I'm not catching right now, I might get a few more of the jokes. Don't get me wrong, the movie was quite funny in places – there's parts I'm still laughing about – but it was uneven. Maybe the boss monster was a bit too creepy and that made me take the movie more seriously than it was intended.
Not completely sure. Overall, I did enjoy this movie. I would recommend it to the more adventurous of movie goers.
Cheers to Michael for putting this one out there. I'm a big fan of the Tremors/Gremlins stuff *ahem* Zombie Playground *cough*!
And I love the twist of the booze souring the victims. However, I felt the whole thing felt very half measured. Not whacky/fun enough to sustain the ninety minutes.
I wish they had gotten to the booze revelation sooner. They half way point felt late for that one. I wanted to spend more time exploring the fun of that concept. Perhaps the entire gang had to migrate to a location that had more booze?
Something like that (in Tremors its get the hell out) would've kept this afloat better.

LATEST NEWS CineVita Films is producing a short based on my new feature!
Well, the comments above pulled me in. I'm gonna join the Tremors/Gremlins fan club.
This had it's moments but I did feel it dragged at times before they realised about the alcohol and how it could save them from their predicament. Also it could have been a bit wackier, drunk people fighting off creatures has tons of potential.
The acting was good and it was nice to see Richard Coyle get a leading role, always liked him since one of his early roles in the television show Coupling. The tentacle creature also looked good I thought - can't imagine this had a big budget?
And I would like to throw in a mention about the scene at the end playing homage to Aliens when the drunken woman cop smashes the creature with a digger and says "get away from him you cunt" I thought that was great.
So far from Michael and Bretts reviews I've detected that there are Irish and booze in this movie...
Nope... No stereotypes there
There's a good scene which I think you'll appreciate, Mark. They're trying to get everybody to the bar for a fake party but nobody moves, guess what line it takes to get them moving... Free bar! No stereotypes at all in this one.
