This one came across my desk this week...

Two films in the same year about cults and both are good!
I prefer Martha/Marlene, but this one kept me watching too.
Good performances and a new hook every 15 minutes did the trick for me.

The ambient hypnotic score pulled me into the scenes as well.
The ending might frustrate some, myself included, but still very much worth a watch!

Regards,
E.D.

Stoked.  I'm absolutely in love with Brit Marling.  It was the Russian cosmonaut monologue in Another Earth that did it.

Brit Marling, marry me. Seriously though, how cool is it that her and a friend have both successfully co-wrote two films together, while she takes the leading role and he directs. These two are certainly on my watch list, I was a huge fan of Another Earth and was not disappointed with Sound of My Voice. Emotional manipulation is so weirdly fascinating, the whole cult world is really interesting and both this and Martha Marcy May Marlene have done great jobs and creating intense and haunting atmospheres. This movie is fast and though some may complain about the ending, I thought it was a great way to wrap it all up, nothing is for sure and there's still a lot of questions left unanswered.

Brit Marling is amazing. I've spoken to her before and we e-mailed a few times about her other Sundance film, Another Earth.

I think what she's done is incredible.

She moved out to LA with her boyfriend and a friend. They all lived together. She co-wrote Another Earth with her boyfriend at the time (the film's director) and co-wrote Sound of my Voice with the other roommate.

She starred in both and they both got into Sundance the same year. Amazing!

'Artist' is not a term you should use to refer to yourself. Let others, and your work, do it for you.

The trailer has me hooked.
Is she from the future or not?
Guess I need to find out.

Finally got around to seeing this last night.  I was very impressed and really enjoyed this for what it was and what it set out to do.

THis is not a movie for the masses, as it's very low budget, a little slow, and ends very ambiguously, but for me, it worked on virtually every level.

I'm very impressed how good this actually looked and how well it was shot.  I'm also very impressed in how it was put together, how it played out, and even how it ended. It made me think...and I'm still thinking about it, and that's rare.

My hat goes off to Zal Batmanglig and Brit Marling.  Marling gave an amazing performance here and it's a very tough character to pull off convincingly, like she did.  There were so many nuances to her character, and again, I bought her Maggie the whole 9 yards.

It's interesting, because when you watch 1,000's of movies, certain little things tend to stick out, and this had a few I noted as soon as they occurred.  I'm referring to the odd narration of main chracters Peter and Lorna's backstory, the completely out of place and WTF intro of character Carol, and the continuing oddity of little Abigail - I knew all of these would come into play and I also thought all could have been done better, or more smoothly, as they really did stick out like a sore thumb.

IMO, these were all crucial to the real meaning here and the answers to questions that were left for teh audience to make their own conclusions on.  Ambiguity can be awesome when done well, and IMO, it was done very well here.  This is the kind of movie one can watch again and again and get little things out of, that weren't seen on first viewing.

Nice to see Brit Marling moving up in the world, as I enjoyed her performance with Richard Gere in Arbitrage very much - she's someone to watch for and I see big things in her future.

There's not all that much action here but there is a sense of dread and even wonder that lies heavy over every scene, and I mean every scene.  Really well done.
