This is an interesting kind of show. I've had the exact same feelings about season 1 as I have about season 2 (I don't want to see any semantics crap about how it's a mini series...).

The idea is that the beginning is kind of rough, but it keeps getting better and better as the season goes along. It throws every horror convention and cliche you can think of, but not quite in the way you'd expect (you being me).

I'd say it's one of the best shows on TV when it comes to character. I mean, their team has mastered how to create differentiating characters who each have their own goals and that is very refreshing.

Say what you want about the stories themselves or the writing, but they've certainly got their characters nailed down. It feels like a really well-polished version of the Killer games.

I have also noticed that through both seasons, Spock (Zachary Quinto) has remained my favorite character and am getting excited about where this season is headed.

Anybody else have any particular opinions?

I am absolutely a fan of American Horror Story.    I think it's the most classic interpretation of the horror genre currently out there.  I also think it's excellent television.   I like season 2 a bit more than season 1 - so far - but I thought season 1 was damn good too.

I agree with George. Season one was pretty entertaining and that finale was crazy awesome, but "Asylum" is kicking it's arse so far. The characters are more conflicted and more interesting, the writing is a bit sharper and the sixties stuff really gives it a great vibe. I'm so happy there will be a third season.

The only show I watch....

Loved the first season. The 2nd season was a slow start for me, I thought they threw too much in the few episodes and it was hard to keep track. But as of now, loving it more than the first.

And Nip/Tuck: the epitome of trashy TV. But, for the most part, I liked that, too. =)

This is one of the most twisted, yet entertaining shows on TV.  And I agree that this season far surpasses last season, which was pretty damn good itself.  They threw everything but the kitchen sink into this season:  serial killers, Nazis, aliens, psycho kids, pinheads, possessions, mutants...yet somehow it's all working.  And I like the idea that each season is its own stand alone show and you don't have to keep tuning in year after year as the story gets hopelessly complex, i.e. Lost.

I LOVE AHS!!!! After having turned away from TV shows for a good decade or so, I'm so happy to have found this. Thanks Cornetto!! It's just up my alley as far as stuff I like goes.

Now, Breaking Bad is not a bad show, but I'm having some real issues with Walter cooking meth for money. He must know where his product ends up... mostly young people. Besides, there are no likable characters in that show. In other words, it's a good show, that I feel really conflicted about.  

I started out watching the first season...
But abandoned the show about halfway through.
Thought it was too erratic and over the top when it should be evocative.
Then again...
I was assuming it was going to be a regular TV series then.
Since, they've transformed into a"miniseries" and gobbled up awards.

So, do you really think I should go back and watch the second half of season one?
Do I need to watch the first series to appreciate the second?

Nope -- though it is fun to follow-up one season with the other, as they reuse many of the same actors in completely different ways.

Definately worth a second look, and it is on Netflix streaming now.

Season 2 is a riot, too. I love  Chloë Sevigny and James Cromwell in pretty much anything, and it is great to see they are not above a big cheese sandwich like AHS.

I guess I'm gonna have to give this another go. Watched the first few episodes of season one and just wasn't digging it. But, the horror mongers here keep chiming in, guess I am missing something.

Everyone seems too over the top. Doesn't seem to be a single, rational thinking head in the mix. But, if that's what they're shooting for I will try to look at it for what it is...

I don't think you're missing anything. It's the same with Brett. You guys watched the first half and decided it wasn't for you. That's fine. I never watch the whole season of a show I'm not into, either. But the thing is, it gets better as it goes along (for me, in the case of both seasons so far) so what you guys have seen is the weakest the season(s) has to offer.

It may be worth continuing until the end of the season, but you never know. And, I'm definitely liking season 2 better than 1. It's good times.

I'm really, really trying to get into AHS.  Didn't see Season One, but have seen several episodes of Season Two.  My problem: there doesn't seem to be anything fresh here. Nazi doctors, twisted nuns, serial killers...nothing I haven't seen a million times before.  But I should really give it a try again, before I write it off.  So many people seem to love this show...  

The show goes a little deeper and more graphic than just Nazi Doctors, twisted nuns and serial killers...

Well, when it first aired, I thought these characters were going to be recurring.
So, the body count and the whole attitude was baffling.
I couldn't really care much about anyone.

Only later during awards season did they pull the surprise miniseries status.
Maybe I should just pick up from season two.
