I hate indie film. I really do. Stick me in a room with the Avengers playing over and over for my personal hell. I would gladly take it over most of Sundance's selections.

When I heard that people walked out of this film at Sundance, I had to watch it. I liked the premise. Fake phone caller pretending to be a police officer, who conveniently can't make it to the scene. Then he makes the manager do atrocious things to one of her employees. The caller getting off the entire time.

I just couldn't buy a second of it. Not only do they strip this poor girl down to nothing, the fiancee of the manager comes in to watch her. Spanks her ass and makes her blow him at the cop's requests. I can't buy morons in a film. These were pretty well acted too.

There is some justice at the end, I guess some will say it's a poignant piece. Based on somewhat a true story. I say I couldn't keep my eyes open and I love naked women. I just couldn't believe the idiocy of the characters from start to finish.

James

Just downloaded this on graboid, along with Lincoln, looper and a few others.

Thanks for the heads up Brett. I saw the trailer...  not exactly riveting.

You know, I was right there with you James, until I did a little research into the actual incident.

I was amazed -- utterly freaking amazed -- to learn how close this film mirrors the true events.  I mean, even the parts where you say, "No f-ing way".  It happened, dude.

It changed the way I look at this film.  Yeah, the people in this film are total idiots, and there are alot of stupid people out there, but it is also pretty easy to sit on your couch and go, "I would never do that".

Not a great film, by any means, but deeper than it is getting credit for, I think.

Hey, it's my tiny, little IMDb!

I, too, didn't like the film when I first saw it.  Interesting plot, very uncomfortable situations, fantastic acting, BUT I just couldn't relate to the characters and their decisions.  It's bizarre that this is a true story with real people because these people are downright dumb and ridiculous.  Why didn't Becky just simply ask for help and ask the cop to effing come and search her?  Or speak up more?  I don't get the decisions made by anyone.  AT ALL.

But, the fact is it happened.  Watch this documentary on YouTube below.  It's the real story that happened and the film matches what happened in the film and it's crazy that these dumb people actually exist.

The story seems an awful lot like the episode of law and order svu with robin williams, almost identical in fact.

Strange looking at the Imdb scores vs the Rotten Tomatoes meter. Critics never seem to agree with viewers it seems. I'll check this one out...

I completely agree and I found myself shouting at the television because of the absurdity of it. On the other hand, I also checked out the story like Bert and the actual event did play out like the movie.

Check out the video Oney posted.

It's absolutely amazing, really.

Wow. I have a new respect for this film and a new lack of faith in humanity. Seems like this went down scene for scene in reality. I guess the sickest thing is it looks like the bastard who called was never convicted.

Actually, I'm not responsible for this movie thread.
But, I have seen the film.

It's shockingly frustrating and it's ALL TRUE.
As much as I infuriated with the story...
I couldn't stop watching.

Movie wins. I watch until the end.
I get mad at humanity until I grab a snack and move on.

But while I was stuck in the narrative, it did work it's magic on me.
Major kudos to the actors for pulling off the tone of the material.

I saw this the other night. Not one I was particularly looking forward to. Nevertheless it was a film I intended to watch some time.

I heard it was based on a true story. But they keep telling me that when I watch Fargo.

It was alright, but also extremely annoying in parts. Shout at the TV annoying type stuff.

"Just tell him to fuck off!" left my mouth against my will more times than I care to remember. Another one was "Aren't you supposed to be serving the customers?".

Reading back through the posts here I'm inclined to agree with Pirate. Ooh aar.

Thing it, it ain't a documentary. If it wasn't for the Kevin guy I think I may have thrown the disc out of the window. There wasn't enough resistance and far too many sheep. Baah humbug.

Just because it really is true is fine - make a documentary. But if you're gonna go the trouble of making a film it has to be plausible, buyable, believable.

Being true isn't enough. By the end of this I didn't care a jot and didn't believe a word of it. Despite some good acting too and what could be a truly scary movie. A shame.

This seemed like an interesting concept and even more interesting because it was based on a true story. Sadly I found the movie to be underwhelming and pretty much boring. Wasn't badly made for a budget of 200.000 $,
