Surprised not to see a thread for this. This goes to show that not only Hollywood makes tank jobs. Our friendly Canadians do as well. In their defense, eventhough this had a $50 mil budget, I guess it was leaked online and threw the MPAA into a frenzy. So it didn't make too many stateside theaters for some reason.

This is probably one of the best looking films I have ever seen. The visuals are stunning. Two worlds, one on top of the other. Everything created in each world pulls toward that planet's gravity. It is a ridiculous concept that anyone with one class of high school physics could tear apart.

Then you have the hokey love story. Think Twilight hokey. It is another bad take on Romeo and Juliet. Two lovers from different worlds that can never be together.

I'll admit, I enjoyed it though. It was such an ambitious concept. Twice, not once, our hero cuts weights off of him from one world and falls back to his. The distance of several skyscrapers that nobody could survive, but he does.

I recommend it for the visuals alone. You can often pause this film, especially if you have a nice HD screen, and it's like a painting. I was amazed with how fantastic this film looked...

Eh. I think I'll pass. The story itself seems to have that Cloud Atlas Hallmark card feel to it, which is a turnoff to me, and according to you, James, it's worse than that. I also think the upside down angle doesn't seem to serve any purpose other than to provide eye candy and establish a sense of "the other," which is fine, I guess, but after that, what can you do with it that's not superficial but actually affects the story and all that good stuff? It seems like an interchangeable concept. Or have I got it all wrong?

Kirsten Dunst sure does love her upside down kissing, huh? The actors appearing upside down actually annoyed me, do I don't think this one will be for me. However, I will admit that some of the visuals did look stunning.

I'll be seeing this next weekend, as my girlfriend liked the trailers.  I'll sit through a love story every now and then, and I agree, the visuals loom quite stunning.

Review to follow in a week or so...

Seen it.

Upside Down - 5.5/10
Looks very pretty.
Fab example of learning how to execute a particular SFX and then just going hog wild with it!
Otherwise, the story requires a lot of just leaving your brain at the door, which I was prepared for by reviews beforehand.
